Hello all. Probably I will have to visit Dortmund frecuently during the next year due to my work. I see it is only 300 km from Charleroi, and my home town is linked to Charleroi by RyanAir...so I would like to know if it is posible to move from Charleroi to Dortmund using public transport or I will have to rent a car every time?. I don´t know if I should start searching at the belgian public transport or at the german system...Thank you for any help.
Miguel, first, have a look at the trains: This site includes all of them, not only the germanb system www.bahn.de/i/view/ESP/es/index.shtml

Doesn't Ryanair fly to Dusseldorf/Weeze ; it would be much easier to get to Dortmund.

After a quick search it seems I must go to Brussels or Liege, then to a german city (Köln or Aachen) and then Dortmun, so I am pretty sure that renting a car is wiser (more comfortable, and economic...) That website looks interesting. I will save it.

"only 300km" I think that flying directly to Dortmund will in the end almost always end up being cheaper and more convenient than flying Ryanair to Charleroi and continuing by public transport or a rental car. That said: Ha

That said: Have a look at www.bahn.de. Tickets for a trip from "anywhere in Belgium" to Dortmund kan be had there for 29,- euro of booked sufficiently in advance.

vtveen, I live in Zaragoza (Spain) and Ryanair just flies to Charleroi in that area. If I must go to Madrid or Barcelona(300 km) to catch those flights...I prefeer to fly from my town, and then drive. But I will have an eye on those flights just in case. Thanks.

The good thing I see of renting a car when I land is that I will drive straight to my flat/apartment/hotel...whatever in Dortmund. I won´t be worried about delays on the flight as the car will be waiting for me, so no hurry to "catch the last train or spend one night here and tomorrow you won´t start working untill midday"

Miguel, have you had a loot at the traditional air companies? Maybe you can find good deals (more expensive but in the end, just flight), no flight + trains + cars.....

Miguel, if you don't find a better air connection then I would recommend to take a rental car at Charleroi airport. Going by train you have to change trains twice usually (at Brussels and Cologne). And you have to go from the airport to Charleroi train station and in Dortmund from the station to where you want to go. That all takes a lot of time using public transport. For train schedules I recommend to have a look at www.bahn.de Dortmund has direct flights from Barcelona and Bilbao. Maybe they work better for you if you could go to these airports using your own car.

Thanks Bernd, I think it may be my best option. It seems like the road from Charleroi to Dortmund is very good. I am excited about the posibility of being paid for flying!! lol. It may be my first time, and then spending some months working abroad will be o.k too.
