Best time for Doolin?

by XcodyX Online Now Oct 26, 2010 at 9:47 AM

I'm a 21 year-old male looking at staying in Doolin for a week or so next year, most likely at the Allie River Hostel. Can anyone tell me what time of the year is the best time to visit this village? (Weather/prices/less tourists). Any other advice on this village would be appreciated.

Hi, dont know about better times than others through the year, no doubt there is but we were there in October - driving around Ireland for 10 days - everything was green and beautiful and the area around Doolin was rather nice - the food was excellent in Doolin and the recommended must do to go to a pub late at night for the full on Irish music etc was right on!

To be honest, I was actually thinking of going in October so that's great news! Thanks for the advice on the music as well!

If you'd like to see the Burren at it's best then you need May/June time. The area is famous for it's limestone flora in particular. Obviously the limestone is present all the time but the flowers in Spring and early Summer are brilliant. Even if staring at rock isn't your thing, the limestone pavement running down into the sea is amazing if, like me, you'd only ever seen them on high ground. It's a great place for seeing seahsore life such as star fish and urchins.

As a relative local and a regular visitor to the west of Clare I would opt for May/June or September these are either side of the main season and are quieter although sill have lots going on. Bear in mind that you will not be spending all your time in the village and whilst the weather has been fair this year it is not always so. Doolin gets the full weight of the Atlantic be it good or bad so I would put a cut off from mid Oct to late April. Also be aware that a car is practically a must as the Bus service is limited, especially out of season.

Just seeing the name brings back wonderful memories...
I was there years ago in late September and it was perfect. B&B or Hostel; all good!!
A must do from Doolin, walk to cliffs of Moher on the back road. Also, take the ferry to the Aran Islands and make sure to spend a day or two walking around. It's the only way to really see/feel the beauty of it all.....
This is making me want to go back..kind of home sick!!
    Enjoy!! I know you will... :) Nancy-o
