Can anyone tell me how to get from Rome to Dobbiaco (Toblach) in the Dolomites? I am trying to go there to visit the Parco Naturale Faies-Sennes-Braies and the Lago di Braies (Pragser Wildsee). I had assumed I would take a train from Rome to Bolzano, and then Bolzano to Dobbiaco, but I can't find any Bolzano-Dobbiaco trains. I checked the Dobbiaco tourism website, but I found it confusing. Any recommendations would be extremely appreciated! Thank you, Appia
I don't know which site you are using, but the official Italian railway site (in English): ferroviedellostato.it/homepa... gives trains from Bolzano to Dobbiaco. Journey takes around 2 hours with one change, trains roughly hourly, one-way fare not available for some reason but it won't be expensive.

I have checked the trenitalia website and there is a curious thing. When I enter a date in July it says there are no trains, but if I enter a June date the trains are there, one every hour, with change in Fortezza. I am wondering if they are planning some interruption for works on the railway in summer. I suggest to try with several different dates.

No, you are just looking too far ahead I think. The Trenitalia website doesn't carry data too far ahead.

The line from Fortezza (where you change to Dobbiaco) to the east is operated by the Austrian railways. Ridiculously enough, the Austrian website does not show prices either. However, it should be around 10 euro one-way or less. The timetable for July does not appear thanks to the marvelous Trenitalia website that does not show the regional trains after June 16. However, I am pretty sure that the timetable will remain the same.

Suspected that might be why they don't show the fare. Also am pretty certain the timetable will be the same.

I never had any problems with the trenitalia website when looking two or three months ahead, but I usually look for destinations on the major routes. You are probably right with regard to smaller local routes. anyway, when looking for dates in June I see there are trains every hour, so Appiantica should manage with a trip to Lago di Braies.
