4 hour night stopover in Doha

by ctrlaltdelete200390 Online Now Jan 7, 2012 at 7:49 AM

Hi! on the return leg of my honeymoon (from Male to London), we are having a four hour night stop over in Doha (arriving at 22:00, and leaving again at 01:50) Is this enough to venture out into the city? We are on a budget so don't want it to cost too much. Can anyone advice on what to do, and how much taxis, a cold drink will cost? I'm Belgian, my fiancee is British. I understand you get visas on arrival, but am confused as some say they cost 8 British pounds, others say double that. Some people seem to recommend going to Souq Waqif. Maybe we can walk there? And lastly, is it correct we don't have to worry about our luggage, as that is automatically dealt with by Qatar airways, whom our travel agent booked the whole flight deal with?

Hi, welcome to VT. Your flight details on your Home Page say you arrive in Doha at 23.50, so that means you'll be going more or less direct to your connecting flight. No time to go out into the city, and everything will be closed anyway.

Sorry, I've just realised you said the return trip. Christmas hangover ;-) By the time you actually get out of the airport, if the plane's on time, it will be maybe 22.30 or 22.45. You need to be back for the onward flight by 00.30. Not a lot of time to see anything and, as I said earlier, not much will be open that late at night.

Thanks Colin_Bramso Very helpful. We might just take a taxi to see the Corniche - might be a nice stroll for an hour? It's just that this will be a trip of a life time for us, and we'll never be there again, so we were thinking that we'd just soak up the surroundings, instead of waiting in the terminal, maybe.

I don't think it would be possible, as it takes up to an hour just to get through the lineups to get your visa-on-arrival for Qatar.

The visa costs 100 Qatari Rials, or about US27. That's around 17 British pounds.
