cycling the dingle peninsula

by selkies_delight Online Now Aug 8, 2008 at 3:05 PM

I would like to rent a bike and cycle the peninsula. Can this be done in a day? What difficulty level is it? Are helmets mandatory? Can I rent a bike for several days? Where is the best place to rent? Cheers Selkie

You should have no problem hiring a bke for more than one day. There are several places around the peninsula: discoverireland.com/ca-en/ir... (place doesn't seem to have a website) and discoverireland.com/ca-en/ir... (ditto) and others on dingle-peninsula.ie/walking.... (scroll down to cycle section for names/contact). I believe the hillier parts can be 'intermediate'/difficult (e.g. the Connor Pass) but generally you should have no problems. I do not believe wearing a helmet is legally compulsory in Ireland, but it would be sensible imo.

Do you mean to cycle around the entire peninsula in a day? I would say you'd need to be a fairly strong rider, it's a reasonably long ride and you'll have a pretty good climb either heading out of or into Dingle depending on the route. There are a number of places that rent bikes there. Great town!
