Has anyone here climbed Devils Tower in Wyoming? Any advice? How long did it take, did you need a permit, how difficult was it? Thanks
I have never climbed the Tower, only walked around it. I do know that you will be required to register at the park before doing a climb. Check out this web page for information on climbing the Tower. http://www.nps.gov/deto/climbing.htm Note: Devils Tower is also a sacred area for American Indians. It is recommended that you not climb in June to show respect for the culture of American Indian tribes who feel their culture is not respected at the tower.

Thanks for your info! I will check it out. And, we are going in July, not June. Did you see anyone climbing when you were there?

Yes, there were a number of people climbing when we were there. As you probably know this is a steep sided vertical climb, and everyone was using ropes and cams among other equipment. Rising over 1200 ft. above the river plain it is a very impressive sight. Since you are into Rock Climbing, if you haven't been to Joshua Tree National Park in California, be sure to check it out for a future trip. The park has wonderful rock formations and is a very popular area for rock climbers. In fact the park states that it is one of the most popular rock climbing places in the world. We went there to hike, and we saw rock climbers working their way up ropes in a number of places. If you haven't been there check out this site for future information. nps.gov/jotr/activities/clim...
