I am curious to know what is the best reputable bus service from Flores to Guatemala City then on to Antigua. I saw one bus company online and emailed them but never got a response (Linea Dorada). Some one please give me some more info on this :D Thank you
Hi, There is a big chance I will be in Flores on Christmasevening. Is there anything special to do then? Also: I am a single 35y traveller and my birthday is on Christmasevening. It would be lovely If I could have a good birthday, combined by local christmasevening festivities... Can anyone help me? Thanks. XXX
My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Guatemala and Belize this May. While we're visiting Tikal/Flores for 3 days, we're interested in staying at La Lancha, but after doing some further research on where it's located and how pricey the add-ons are becoming, we're thinking it might not be the smartest choice. The rooms are beautiful and (for room alone) the right price, but we're wondering the following: - Getting to/from. We arrive at FLS. Are there cabs or car services to get you to the hotel? La Lancha quoted45+tax. - Day trips. Is there anything nearby? Trips to Tikal run180+ pp. Travel guides I've read say you can find/arrange van trips for roughly30 pp. Are cabs or car services reachable? - Location. Are we missing out by not staying in Flores? Reviews say it's lovely, though La Lancha sounds wonderful. - Travel to Belize City. When we leave, we're heading to Belize City. I thought it might be interesting to take a bus there, since we are flying the rest of the trip. Do San Juan Express and Linea Dorada pick up at the airport? Will we be able to get a reliable cab or car service to get us there so early in the morning? Your help is greatly appreciated!
We will have a 4WD rental car. Is it reasonable to plan a full day trip from San Ignacio to Tikal and make it back before dark. Do you recommend paying for a tour once at Tikal, or can we enjoy as much on our own, if we read up first on the history. We are good researchers. If you think it's important to stay overnight at Tikal, can you make a suggestion for a reasonable hotel that is clean and has good standards? Thanks for your thoughts!
Im not quite sure but its possible to take overnight bus to Flores day before visit Tikal and after my visit to tikal take another overnight bus back to guatemala city. Safety of the buses how safe are overnight bus from Guatemala City to Flores is one things i most concerned.
Hi, We are staying in Flores and would like to be in Tikal by sunrise. Is it possible to do this ? or is it only if we stay right outside of the Park ? I've read that the park opens at 6am - will we have enough time to climb, eg, Temple 4 and be on top by sunrise ? I asked my hotel for the earliest transpo to Tikal and they told me, 7am. So now I am wondering if there are plenty of transportation options from Flores to get to Tikal for sunrise ? We prefer going by ourselves, but if it is better to go on a tour, we can do it as well and will just make sure we can get some time on our own to explore the place. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Maria
My Boyfriend and I are planning on visiting Tikal in July. So I am wondering, is it safer to take a guide to the ruins or is it ok to hoof it on your own? Are there a lot of trails, do they provide a map? Also, we may take my 7 yr old daughter.
Does anyone know if there are still flights from Belize City to Flores? I've been trying to inquire with the two airlines that I thought flew to Flores, but haven't heard back from either of them.
Hi all, three of us are planning to take a bus from Guatemala City to Tikal in Jan 2009 and are wondering about the questions below: 1. How much is the bus ride and how many hours is it? Is it necessary to travel back on the same day if we buy a return ticket? Where can we get the bus in GC? 2. We're thinking of staying in Flores. If we do that, how many days should we factor in for Tikal + Flores? How many days is Tikal good for? 3. We hope to spend one night in Tikal, how much are rentals for the hammock and mosquito net? Is it safe enough? 4. Which hotels are best in Flores? 5. Most importantly, how is the weather like at Tikal in January? Would anyone be able to offer advice on these questions? Thanks a lot!!!
My husband and I plan on going to Tikal in mid-August. How badly is the rain going to affect our visit?
I'm taking a trip to Tikal May 1-3 and I have several questions. 1. what would the weather be like? 2. is it safe to explore a place by oneself (not being a part of a tourist group)? 3. any advice on MUST to do things there? Many thanks in advance.
What is the most comfortable way to get to Tikal from Yuacatan peninsula (I suppose Campeche and/or Tulum will be the southernmost point I'd reach in Yucatan without this detour) Apart from the mentioned I'd be staying in Merida and Cancun the most time of my journey.... Is there any chance for a short trip to Tikal? How long would you estimate, that this trip takes? btw: I suppose it is forbidden to cross the borders with hired cars, isn't it?
Is there any possibility for a one or two day trips to Tikal (Flores) from Cancun? I realize, that once there was a daily flight operated by Aviateca for around 270 (round trip), but unfortunately, Aviateca was liquidated...
Hi I'm going to Guatemala in March, during Holy Week. What should I see? Also, I want to go to Tikal, is flying from the capital the best way? Thanks, Garrett
Is it true the 3 Hotels at Tikal have no electricity after a certain hour??
Is it true the 3 Hotels at tikal have no electricity after a certain hour?
I'm going to the Peten region next weekend and I'm just wondering where it'd be better to stay ... Most of the people go to Flores / Santa Elena and from there visit Tikal ... but I've read accomodation in Flores is much more expensive than in other places in Guatemala. So I'm thinking in wether staying in El Remate (which is closer to Tikal and to the border with Belize) ... or perhaps staying at some campground in Tikal. Has anybody ever stayed at El Remate? How is it? What about the accomodation? In the other hand... what about camping at Tikal? Is it safe? Are there lockers available? How far from the ruins would this be? Thanks!
I am going to archaeological field school for the month of July, but am flying in to meet friends in Cancun 1st and this will allow me about 2 weeks of time inbetween. I have a pretty good idea of how to get from Cancun to Belize City (where I am meeting my summer arch. crew) but I would really like to get to Tikal sometime in between the 2 places. Is this even possible, worth it, etc? What kind of time table would I be looking at? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am leaving pretty soon and I should probably start thinking about my plans.
We are landing in Guatemala City mid March around 5am and we have a day and half to spend somewhere before we can check into the hotel we have booked. Wondering if zipping up to Tikal for a day and a night is doable. 1. What do roundtrip flights from Guat. City cost? 2. Where can I find schedules? 3. Where is the best place to spend the night? 4. Once the flight lands around Tikal, how does one get around? shuttle services? Tikal looks like 'THE' Maya ruins to visit. Is that true or has it become all commercialized? Thanks.
There are several agencies that advertise 3 day/2 night hikes from Flores to El Zotz and then to Tikal on day 3. La Casa de Don David's place even advertized just such a guided tour/hike through the jungle. My 2 questions are: 1. Is this safe? There are a many with concerns about saftey when off the beaten path... 2. What is a reputable and trustworthy tour provider to do this with? We speak very little spanish. I've been hiking/camping in Peru on the Inca trail, and have been to Guatemala 2x before, but i've never gone on a hike where the guides did not speak english.
Hello again...Yet another question... We'll be staying in Flores while visiting Tikal, but I'm interested in El Remate. Has anyone been/stayed there? I read they have nice wood carvings and other crafts there, so perhaps we could stop over there and look around, but is it worth while? Thanks :)
Plan to cross from San Ignacio early morning - is it better to stay at El Remate and visit Tikal next day or go into Flores? Any tips/suggestions on where to stay?
Hello, Does anyone know how we can get from Tikal/Flores to Chetumal, Mexico? Are there buses? How is the border crossing? Thank you!
When we were at Chichen Itza I wore good sandals and climbed to the top of El Castillo. Is the terrain similar at Tikal? What do you recommend? Thanks.
Hi, I've read my Lonely Planet cover to cover, visited every website I can in English and just cannot find afternoon flights to Tikal (Flores/Santa Elena). Any ideas? I tried Taca -but they are sold out. Tikal Jets only has am departures (from what I can see). Really don't want to waste a night in Guatemala City. Any advice? Also, the international operator informed me that all #'s in Guatemala are now 8 digits. All the #'s in my '04 Lonely Planet are 7 digits. The US Embassy website listed a 8 digit # but they are not open until Monday. Ideas as to where I get new #'s? Christopher
We are arriving mid-April on a Friday at BZE at 2:30pm. Going to Tikal first, then Cayo District. We have reservations at Tikal Inn for Sat & Sun nights--and trying to decide where to stay Friday night. (1) Because of the lateness of the day, would it be better to stop overnight in San Ignacio then cross the border and go to Tikal the next day, or better to cross border the first night and stay at town of El Remate or perhaps Flores? (2) I've read that Linea Dorada has a shuttle that goes from Belize City to Flores for about BZ$50 pp. Does anyone know their schedule--if our plane lands at 2:30pm will we meet their schedule? Can we catch this shuttle from the airport or do we need to taxi to their location? Any help would be appreciated.
I will be in Belize and November and am trying to decide between spending a day at Tikal or at Caracol. Unfortunatly I only have one day to spend. Any thoughts on which one would be a better experience?
Hi, Does anyone have information about transportation between Flores, Peten and Palenque Chiapas? Thanks.
