    • Travelling Nica alone

      Nicaragua Dec 27, 2014 at 10:00 PM

      Hey there,

I'm travelling Nicaragua alone from January to March 2015..
I'm 26 y/o, female, and pretty new to travelling. I'm laidback, want to hit up Granada, Leon, and Ometepe Island, hike some volcanos and choose the most cost efficient way. Would love to travel with someone around my age for a bit. Any takers..email me at ktlnsymonds@yahoo.ca

Is there daily bus travel from San Jorge to San Carlos? I will be on Ometepe and want to go to San Carlos, down the Río San Juan and return to Granada. Are buses frequent, daily?

      Finalizing seven-night itin, thoughts please

      Nicaragua Dec 30, 2014 at 6:41 PM

My husband and I will be travelling to Nicaragua for one week in March - arriving midday on a Saturday and leaving midday the following Saturday - six full days/seven nights total.

We are trying to come up with an itinerary so that we can book accommodations in advance. We would definitely like to stay in León, hike a nearby volcano and either do a day trip to Las Peñitas or possibly stay there for one night. We are also interested in several sights around Granada, but we are not interested in Granada itself at all. We've done a lot of reading and based on our past travel experience, it doesn't sound like somewhere we need/want to spend any time in.

Here is exactly what we would like to do:

      Around Granada

      - Kayak around Las Isletas

      - Go for a dip and relax in Laguna de Apoyo

      - Visit Volcán Mombacho and do one of the hikes

      León and Around

      - Explore the city, see the cathedral and art gallery

      - Relax in the city (cool bars/cafes)

      - Hike/day trip to one of the nearby volcanoes

      - Get a good amount of beach time at Las Peñitas (try surfing lessons, relax on beach)

      - Possibly stay one night at Las Peñitas to be able to fully relax and enjoy the sunset

Given the time that we have (7 nights, 6 full days, and two half days), how would you suggest we split up our time? How long will we need in Granada to see those specific things? Should we use Granada as a base or should we be staying somewhere else, possibly at one of the accommodations at Laguna de Apoyo?

We want this to be more of a mellow trip so don't want to spend all of our time moving between destinations (even knowing that the distances aren't long).

      Thank you very much!

      Granada Jan 8, 2012 at 1:16 PM

      Hi there,

My Family (wife and two children ages 15 and 11) are planning to make a short trip to Granada from Miami this April and I wondered how safe the city is for an obvious non Nicaraguan looking family to walk around in?

we have been torn between Cartagena in colombia and Granada for this short break so any views on either would be great.

      Many Thanks

      Hi all,

can anyone please recommend a decent Spanish school in Granada? I'll be travelling through Honduras and Nicaragua and have two weeks to kill before my flight goes back, so I'd like to spend these two weeks with an intensive Spanish course.

      Thanks for any help!

      Bus and Hostel inquiries

      Granada Jul 2, 2008 at 3:49 PM

I'm spending 2 weeks in Grecia, Costa Rica and will be taking a bus to Granada afterwards. Problem is I'm not sure if it's possible to go directly there. Would I need to pass through Managua? Any advice on making this trip is greatly appreciated! If it matters at all, I'm a little white female solo backpacker with very little along the lines of an "itinerary" as I'm highly spontaneous..

Also I've done a good bit of research on hostels (including numerous VT pages) in Granada but am quite indecisive. Any recommendations/experiences? This is my first major solo trip and I'm excited!

      Thanks!

We are headed to Costa Rica and Nicaragua later this summer and REALLY want to go to see "Los Isletas" off the coast of Granada, but are having trouble finding how to go about organising this. Anybody got an idea or two, maybe the name of a "company" that goes?

      Thanx for the advice,
      Happy travels

    • Visiting Granada

      Granada Feb 25, 2007 at 9:45 AM

      Hi,

I'm a 32 y.o. BF who is considering going to Granada for 8 weeks this summer to learn spanish. I'm curious about things like ATM access, driving conditions (for renting a car), general safety tips for a female traveling alone, and what are some must see sites in the country. At the end of my stay I plan to travel for a week with my boyfiend. Also if you are a racial minority, how was your experience in Nicaragua?

      Thanks :)

I have heard that Granada is beautiful, but hot. Is it possible to find an apt. outside Granada in the hills, where it is cooler? If so, is it accessible by bus or inexpensive taxis? Thanks
