      Hiking in Rainy Season

      Arequipa Jan 21, 2015 at 12:35 PM

      Hello,

I will be going to Arequipa for 2 days at the end of January. I would love to do a day-trip hike to somewhere in the area, but I am worried about the rainy season weather. Can anyone tell me what I can expect and if it's going to be possible?

Also I wasn't planning on a visit to the Canyon (as it seems so far!)-- are there other hikes closeby that would be enjoyable instead? Or is the trip out there worth it?

      Thanks for the input!!

Inti Raymi Festival - Cusco, Peru

      Cusco Jan 23, 2015 at 7:35 AM

How you I get ticket to the event?
To buy ticket from the organizer site, one have to register. After that they sent me a link. I followed the link and after selecting the seating section, it takes me back to the registration page. Emailed the organizer and no response.
Online forums suggested getting it from a local travel agency. Any reliable ones anyone can post a link?

      Peru Jan 3, 2015 at 11:27 AM

      Hi,

i am planning on doing the Inca trail later in the year. I have heard that the best time to go is May to September - however I wont be in Peru until October at the earliest. What can I expect in terms of weather. Is it worth doing it at this time or a bit later in the year?

      Thanks

    • surfing in Chimaca

      Peru Jan 11, 2015 at 2:53 PM

Flying in and out of Lima in June. After mission trip, 4 of us want to stay 3-4 days to surf in Chicama. Car rental and drive is 8 hours. much cheaper than multi city air fare for 4. Is the coastal highway from Lima north safe and a good road. Is gas readily available. Is car rental in Peru a pleasant experience. Even if we flew from Lima to Trujillo, we would still have to have transportation to get to Chicama which is 30 miles away. Any recommendations.

      June 2011 Abancay Road Tour

Departamento de Apurímac Apr 18, 2011 at 10:19 AM

Hello, my name is Gabriela (39) I’m Peruvian and has been living abroad for the past years. Have been involved in tourism in Peru and have been a tourist guide on cruise ships around Europe, speak Spanish, Italian, English and little German.
I’m a hiker, enjoy nature and open spaces, social drinker and light smoker. Not vegetarian but appreciate good slow food. I’ll be driving from Lima to Abancay and travelling with a puppy (3 mo, male weimaraner named Eros), making overnight stops on the way: Paracas, Nasca, Chalhuanca. Trip ends 3 hours drive to Cusco, so you can proceed with your own trip or return to Lima.

The reason of this trip is because I’m moving to a small town nested around Apurimac Canyon. Have done this road before and have experience driving in the mountains. I have one place with me on the pick up, there is another place free for a person in my old beetle VW ’75, Anakondo, which moves for good to Abancay. Shall be driving “convoy style”.

Length of the trip? Takes about a week considering some sightseeing, and because no matter what maximum speed of Anakondo it’s 90 kph, but this can be discussed when setting the itinerary to follow.

Would like to have travel companions along that would enjoy such experience. Who decides to join the current crew (have a minimum for safety & security), shall afford it’s own expenses and is expected to share gas expenses. Sharing drive it’s a possibility, provided you have a valid driver’s license min. 10 years old and honest mountain experience.

Same trip will be done a second time during the next two months, but the opposite way (to Lima and then back to Abancay) with the pick up only. Before December 2011 would like to arrive to Inapari (frontier Peru/Brasil – Puerto Maldonado), if not in time (because rainy seasons spoils driving those roads) will wait until March 2012. This is for you all to know and maybe organize yourself ahead of time.

Anybody interested in the late June trip? Please write me with details about you and shall be back to you with much more information. My e.mail is: roadtour@hotmail.it, please do write Abancay Road Tour on the subject.

Have a great day you all!

      Travelling to Abancay

Departamento de Apurímac Apr 9, 2005 at 11:16 AM

Has anybody gone to Abancay to do tourism? We would like to go to Lima from Cusco via Abancay - Ayacucho - Huancayo. Since I never hear about this route being discussed in any of the forums, I am wondering if it is safe? Does anybody know? What is there to do in Abancay?
