    • Peru- use of ATM (Scotia Bank)?

      Peru May 19, 2015 at 10:24 AM

We are traveling to Peru in September. In most countries I try to use an ATM at the airport to get the local currency before I step out. My bank - Bank of America - has an agreement with Scotia Bank, allowing for charges to be waived. So that would be my preferred ATM and my questions are:
      1. Is there a Scotia Bank ATM at the Lima airport?
      2. Can Scotia Bank ATMs be found in other popular areas - Cuzco; parts of Lima; Puno?
      Thanks.

      Cusco May 3, 2015 at 9:28 AM

I've reading reviews on Cusco, often mentioned "make sure you being your tourist ticket" when visiting places like SV, Ollan, churches/cathedral, etc; a while back when I begin to consider going to MP, I read reviews and recommendation fr VT forum and remember to come upon tranvia and tickets to purchase in Cusco; now I can't find topic on tranvia and ticket to buy so I can learn more. We are going in August. Any lead please

      Peru May 25, 2015 at 7:39 PM

      Hello travelers:
My partner and I will be traveling to Peru during winter break, 12.20 -12.31, and we will spend most of our time in the Sacred Valley area. I've heard that Christmas or Christmas eve is in Cusco is a sight worthy of being there for, which is right in the middle of our trip. Trying to figure out the flow of our trip in order to make in Peru plane flights. Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley I anticipate 5 days to visit ( Olly, Urubamba, aguas calieinte), and 2 days in Cusco. I have read through a couple of guide books but I'm still not sure what to do besides the sacred valley area in the Cusco region. Since we're from Oregon we thought about the beaches. Is it worth going to beaches north of Lima for sun and warm ocean? Not usually a fan of big cities, we like cultural and hiking experiences. I don't think we really have enough time to fit in Arequipa?
      Appreciate your knowledgable imput. Thanks.

we'll be in Cusco, Peru for 3 days in August; we plan (hoping) to do tours by ourselves (2); need help on places togo/see and how much to hire a taxi/guide and where (in forum, mbrs said people in where one stays usually is a good source) and how much (ball park) a day? any help will be appreciated. also coming in early (6 AM), is it safe to get a taxi fr airport to hotel (it is said, if p/u is arranged by hotel, more expensive) and how much? Thank you.

      June 2011 Abancay Road Tour

Departamento de Apurímac Apr 18, 2011 at 10:19 AM

Hello, my name is Gabriela (39) I’m Peruvian and has been living abroad for the past years. Have been involved in tourism in Peru and have been a tourist guide on cruise ships around Europe, speak Spanish, Italian, English and little German.
I’m a hiker, enjoy nature and open spaces, social drinker and light smoker. Not vegetarian but appreciate good slow food. I’ll be driving from Lima to Abancay and travelling with a puppy (3 mo, male weimaraner named Eros), making overnight stops on the way: Paracas, Nasca, Chalhuanca. Trip ends 3 hours drive to Cusco, so you can proceed with your own trip or return to Lima.

The reason of this trip is because I’m moving to a small town nested around Apurimac Canyon. Have done this road before and have experience driving in the mountains. I have one place with me on the pick up, there is another place free for a person in my old beetle VW ’75, Anakondo, which moves for good to Abancay. Shall be driving “convoy style”.

Length of the trip? Takes about a week considering some sightseeing, and because no matter what maximum speed of Anakondo it’s 90 kph, but this can be discussed when setting the itinerary to follow.

Would like to have travel companions along that would enjoy such experience. Who decides to join the current crew (have a minimum for safety & security), shall afford it’s own expenses and is expected to share gas expenses. Sharing drive it’s a possibility, provided you have a valid driver’s license min. 10 years old and honest mountain experience.

Same trip will be done a second time during the next two months, but the opposite way (to Lima and then back to Abancay) with the pick up only. Before December 2011 would like to arrive to Inapari (frontier Peru/Brasil – Puerto Maldonado), if not in time (because rainy seasons spoils driving those roads) will wait until March 2012. This is for you all to know and maybe organize yourself ahead of time.

Anybody interested in the late June trip? Please write me with details about you and shall be back to you with much more information. My e.mail is: roadtour@hotmail.it, please do write Abancay Road Tour on the subject.

Have a great day you all!

      Travelling to Abancay

Departamento de Apurímac Apr 9, 2005 at 11:16 AM

Has anybody gone to Abancay to do tourism? We would like to go to Lima from Cusco via Abancay - Ayacucho - Huancayo. Since I never hear about this route being discussed in any of the forums, I am wondering if it is safe? Does anybody know? What is there to do in Abancay?
