Denver from Kansas City MO.

by irvbur Online Now Jun 11, 2009 at 6:07 PM

We are still planning our frequently delayed cross-country drive. I understand that the trip between KC and Denver is looong and boooring. We are not on a timetable and would like some info about interesting(if any)minor detours along this leg of our trip. We are NOT campers, hikers, fishermen, or the usual outdoors type.

    Yes, it is boring.
However, if you dip a bit south... Find Bent's Old Fort National Monument, near La Junta Colorado.
An actual fort rebuilt exactly like it was back in the days of traders. Check my review of this place.
Well worth a couple of hours, and a good break in the day.
Then on the way to Denver, stop in Colorado Springs to see the Garden of the Gods. Big red sandstone rocks and views of Pike's Peak.
    Good luck.
