We are headed to Alaska in a couple of weeks and will spend 2 nights in the Denali Backcountry. I have heard the tundra is wet and marshy. Will sneakers be enough or do I have to carry my goretex boots? I am thinking that sneakers and sandals will be all I need for the rest of our trip. We will be drivng from Seeward to Denali and finding mini hikes and adventures along the way. Thanks!
I think you should bring your boots and plan to use them. Sneakers and sandals will be inadequate in Denali backcountry and probably your mini hikes. You might want to pack those sandals for crossing shallow rivers in Denali, depending on where you are hiking. The tundra can be soft and it is certainly uneven. The ankle support and protection from bugs will be worth it. More so if it is rainy. Have a great trip! Mike
