I've been looking into this and as my itinerary starts to take shape for an Delhi-Agra-Varanasi trip I still can't fully understand the train system so I have a few questions.
1. Is it absolutely necessary to book in advance, some sites say 90 days in advance which is difficult because I have yet to decide exactly when I'm going and if I do, the likelyhood is that I will be making the booking a month or less before I go. I'm also hoping to stay about a month keeping my schedule flexible so having prearranged train tickets gets in the way of that.
2.Will I really not be able to get seats if I wait to book once I'm there? I know and read of the quota for tourists but from the posts I've read it seems like such a lottery.
3. Trains! There are so many of them it's confusing. How do I choose the best one, are they all the same, is it down to which has the shortest travel time?
4. I will be flying in and departing from Delhi so my plan is to take a train from Delhi to Agra and either go back to Delhi for a few days then go to Varanasi or go straight to Varanasi from Agra after spending a few days there. Any suggestions on which would be better? I read somewhere all trains from Delhi pass through Agra anyway so there is no point in going back to Delhi before going to Varanasi from Agra.
One more thing about that is I'm also planning trips to Jaipur, Lucknow and Allahabad or some other places but I haven't decided yet, and what if I decide to stay longer in one place and have to change up when I'm there, will I have room to make changes once tickets are booked?

We are a couple looking for advice on which hotel to choose for a one night stay in Delhi while we are in transit. We will be arriving around 9pm and leaving around 10am the next morning so we would like to be reasonably close to the airport (within half hour). We like our comforts though and are looking for something 4-5 star but with a reasonable price as the stay is so short. Thanks in advance.
I am a solo Canadian female traveler who will travel to India in November to attend a friend's wedding. So far, the routes presented to me all seem to require me to arrive in New Delhi airport just shortly after midnight, and I can take my connecting flight early in the morning at about 6am. They will be two separate flights so I actually have to exit the luggage area, and go through check-in and customs all that for the morning flight.
I am, of course, weary of this arrangement, but I don't have much of a choice. My question is now whether or not one can kill time at the airport. Technically I presume I can check-in already shortly before 5am. If not, are there decent hotels nearby which are safe? Security is the biggest concern for me right now.

I have booked a trip to Srinagar in October and the first day will be spent in Dehli. I have already seen all the usual sights, eg Red Fort, Jamma Masjid, Humayun mausoleum. I am thinking about hiring this company delapt.com/meet-and-assist-d...
to pick us up at the airport and drive us to the hotel when we get there ( which is supposed to be around 1 AM in the middle of the night).
Anyone have any experience with this company, or similar? Would you recommend them?
( PLEASE don't tell me to take a taxi because it would be cheaper, I don't care. I am only going to India once, and I don't want to have a bad experience from the start, so I am willing to pay the extra money!)
Or would it be better to wait until morning and then get to the hotel?
Also: will we be able to exchange money at that time at the airport? I found info on the airport and they do have places you can do this, but no hours listed
I head a lot about interesting place in Mumbai - Dhobi Ghat (traditional Indian open-air laundry).
Unfortunate I will not go to Mumbai, and will be only in Delhi.
How can I find interesting and large Dhobi Ghat in Delhi? What is the address in Delhi?
I tried to Google "Dhobi Ghat, Delhi", but I find only photos without exact address in Delhi.

Today, while searching for Pushkar, came across this website:
On a off-chance, I dialled the cellphone. His son answered and informed me that his father was no more but that he (son) was now operating the car business. I asked him to update his father's profile page. He agreed.

Hi . I want to ask about the best and most efficient transportation from New Delhi to Red Fort and Mahatma Gandhi's residence? Can you give me some information? It would be very helpful. thanks.
I scheduled a vacation stopover in Delhi for 5 days. I'd like to find serene/clean/natural/spiritual (are all of these possible?) places to stay and visit during these days. I was thinking I could take a little plane ride to the DED
airport and then come back to DEL by train, visiting the town Rishikesh along the way. Or, I could find a tour of the mountains and wildlife of the Himalayas. Does anyone have a recommended itinerary for someone that just likes nature? I prefer cool weather so I think this is the perfect time to visit. (By the way, I travel to Bangalore occasionally for work and am hoping that the northern part of India is not as polluted!)

I am thinking about going to India as a solo female traveller. I would like to look into a yoga stay as I am an avid yoga lover and am wondering if anyone knows any reputable ones. Also in terms of safety for lone females - there is risk everywhere I know but am wondering if perhaps a tour is a better option then attempting to backpack?
