Delft & the Low Countries

by 438 Online Now Mar 13, 2004 at 9:46 AM

I am planning a holiday in the Low Countries. Using public transports the "tour" will include Brussels, Bruges, Ghent, The Hague and Delft. I like history, art, museums, antiques, fairs, chocolates... Can someone pls advice on budget hotels to stay, places to visit or forgotten cities to include in the "tour". Thanks a lot !

Have a look at The Netherlands page of ATLC (virtualtourist.com/m/2bf0c/3.... She has the most info on old Dutch cities. I would add the city of Alkmaar to your list. How much time do you have to do this trip? General info (including hotels) at: http://www.holland.com/us/ PJ

Cities that are very nice and worthwhile to visit apart from the previous mentioned cities are Leiden and Gouda. Check some of the travelpages on the cities that yóu'd like to visit. There is a wealth of info stored here on VT on most of these cities. Apart from giving you an indication of what to visit, you might have a great time perusing the different experiences of the people. If you want moe info on The Hague and Delft, let me know.

On my Brugge-page I have the best B&B-address you can wish for here. Go to: virtualtourist.com/m/31ce3/5... I will soon give you some links for other B&B's in the other named places (sorry, it's late now and I'm turning in). Greetings from NL, Paul

There are no real low-budget hotels in Delft, so what you can do is find a hostel in The Hague or Rotterdam and take some daytrips to Delft. More info on hostels: http://www.stayokay.com Info on hotels in Delft: http://www.delfthotels.nl or http://www.hotelcoen.nl

Sorry that it became little later then planned. Here are two adresses in Delft that might interest you. Not the cheapest, but quite decently priced for this top-attraction in Holland. Hotel De Plataan Doelenplein 10-11 in Delft www.hoteldeplataan.nl twin-room incl. breakfast around € 90,= Hotel De Kok Houttuinen 14 in Delft www.hoteldekok.nl twin-room incl. breakfast around € 80,= Have a great stay in The Lowlands. Delft is 15 minutes by tram and only 5 minutes by train away from Den Haag (the Hague). So if you don't want to spend too much money, try one of the hostels in Den Haag. I think one of them is not too far away from the train station Hollands Spoor from where the train also runs to Delft (the train starts at Den Haag Centraal and then stops at hollands Spoor before arriving in Delft). But i'm not sure where it is exactly.
