Hi, We will be staying at the Holiday Inn 621 S HIGHWAY 101 SOLANA BEACH, it appers that we can walk to the race track from here. Is this advisble or will we be walking on a highway. Goggle maps is unclear. Thanks Bob
There are sidewalks thru Solana Beach to the race track. Traffic can be heavy, but it is safe.

The entrance is on Jimmy Durante blvd, if I remember correctly. It will be about a mile walk on regular 4 lane roads. The hotel may also have a local shuttle. I had a great meal at The Fish Market Restaurant across the street on Via de la Valle. I highly recommend it. thefishmarket.com/locations....

The road should be safe to walk. On some race days it may be faster to walk. There is a side entrance on the north side, on Via De La Valle. It is open for some events. I'd check with the track management. The Fish Market ( on Via De La Valle, near I-5) may be the best meal for the buck in Solona Beach, but if money not an issue, the best is the Brigantine ( corner of 101 and Via De La Valle )

HB, do you know the name of the Italian place further up VdlV towards Morgan Run? I htink it is something like 'Scaramouche' (old memory). It was on the 2nd floor of a small strip mall.

Found it. It was called Scalia? It is now closed. It had a great wine list too.

Another alternative if you don't want to walk the entire distance is to take the shuttle that runs from the Solana Beach train station to the racetrack. It's about 1/2 mile north on Highway 101 and there is a walking bridge over the train tracks leading to the front of the station where the shuttle arrives/departs.
