I visited Death Valley a few years ago, and would like to go back. I am planning to be prepared with a 4WD vehicle this time. What places would you recommend going with a 4WD? I am thinking the Racetrack, and the larger sand dunes. Where else? I appreciate any tips regarding these places or others. VT rocks!
Sorry, I can't answer your question specifically because I don't know. However, I'd sugguest you contact the Rangers from the Park and ask them. National and State Parks are protected areas and the I'm sure that any "off-road" activities in Death Valley would be regulated and limited. The fines for ignoring these boundries are pretty high.

If you go to the nps website (www.nps.gov) and look at DV there is a map of unpaved roads in the park and a short description of each. You can't drive on the sand dunes but can walk on them as much as you like.
