We plan to rent a vacation house on the beach this coming July 2014. Is it safe to swim at the tip of the west end of the island? We are looking at a house on Velasco Court. Are the rip tides bad that close to the ocean? Would we be better renting in the center of the island?
I want to see both Fort Gaines and Fort Morgan, and get the best view I can of the Sand Island and Middle Bay Lighthouses. What would be the best way to go about all of this, and can it be done in a day? Also need to know a good not-so-pricey hotel nearby, but outside of the immediate area, heading West towards LA. Any ideas? Thanks for any responses!
We are going this weekend and we have 3 kids (1,3 and 6). The older two boys are BIG in castles right now and we just studied the civil war. So they will love these Forts. Which one is better for kids, more "wow"? More canons? Any tunnels? You can just tell me which you like for whatever reason. :)\
We only have one morning and do not think we can do both, we are driving to Johnson's Beach, so we cross the bay anyways.
Thank you anyone for your feedback.
I am trying to find out how to book a room at holiday isle resort. I can not find any search engine that takes me to a reservation page. I also can not find a phone number in the yellow pages. HELP! Need room Wed 7/20.
I will be vacationing at a beach house there in May. My wife occasionally likes to wear a thong bikini when appropriate and acceptable. Just wondering what Dauphin Island's standards are officially and/or un-officially? Thanks.
We are planning a family reunion- grandparents, children , grandchildren( all 9 years and under). Is there enough on the island to keep everyone busy? Ae there shops, restaurants within walking disatance?
I'm a mid-west person(St.Louis Mo.)who had planned on visiting Satellite Beach Florida again where my sister-i- law owns a condo right on the beach.Have been there several times which I guess makes it an easy destination since I know where everything(stores, restaurants etc).
This time a larger group of people that usual will be going which means driving instead of flying.Since it's approximately an 18hr. drive to Florida I stared looking for somewhere closer that we could go to relax and enjoy the beach with the kids.
Not being familiar with the gulf coast area which is a seven hour shorter drive to the beach.I checked out the more popular areas Gulfport etc. When I ran accross Dauphin Island Alabama.Would someone familiar with the area please tell me I'm not dreaming!Affordable housing on a beautiful white sand beach!!Is it too good to be true or is a best kept secret?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.Thank You
After parking our car in the ferry line, what is there within walking distance? Are there any little dining spots close by where we could get a drink and the kids could get a snack?? Thanks
