There seems to be a lot of places to visit in Tanzania. I'll be spending 5 days in Dar Es Salaam in February. Those who have been very recently there - what did you enjoy doing the most?
Honestly nothing. I found Dar Es Salaam being a ugly and very dangerous city. We spent only one day and one night there and talked with a girl that was robbed in the middle of the road in the centre of the city and during the day. We have also reports of other similar cases but no direct witness. Apart from that, we didn't like the city at all and consider we're used to the atmosphere of african cities. Sorry if what I wrote could disappoint anybody, but it's my real feeling. Cheers gmg

Ditto - found Dar to be a real dive - and I was with people who had been there before (Sept 09). I didn't feel comfortable walking about (was with another girl most of the time) and there was not much to see anyway, the markets were nothing exciting either and that was disappointing I ended up spending 2 days at Kipepeo beach (very nice ) and wandered around that area a bit but then going to Zanzibar for 3 days - did not feel intimidated or hassled in Zanzibar - but was still careful about going out by myself.

Thank you all. I decided to spend two nights in Dar and then spend 3 nights in Zanzibar and on my last day - from Zanzibar back to the airport.

If you want to enjoy some places i advice you to choose some places which you can enjoy e.g in Arusha national park you can enjoy well. But in Dar Es Salaam you enjoy only people on market e.g spice tour, johzan tour, stone tour and i can mention but afew.
