Paphos in the South and Kyrenia in the North

Dear all, in August I'll be flying to Paphos with my wife and we will stay in Capital Coast Resort in Paphos. We would like to go with motorbike or car (it depends if we will be able to find at least a 200cc scooter to rent) around the island, and I would like to pay a visit to Kyrenia / Girne in a day tour. Do you know if it is possible to cross the border in Nicosia or nearby to go to Kyrenia with a rented car/scooter? I read about insurances not valid, bargains at borders and so on.
