Hi, I'm going to Cuba for the first time and I'm a US citizen but I want to know if its ok for me to exchange dollars to Canadian money at my LA Airport here when I leave and then change the Canadian to CUC and Pesos when I arrive in Cuba. I wasn't sure if you have to have a passport from Canada to bring canadian money. Also, I see someone said you have a max of 50 cuc daily. is that right? Just my rental car is over 1000.00. They're charging me 90.00 daily plus 20.00 plus 200.00 deposit for a Kia Rio, is that crazy???? Yes, I think. I rent here all the time for business and have rented a cadillac or huge v8 SUV like what I own for less than that.... Is there a maximum amount you can bring into the Country? I also wanted to be able to bring enough so my husbands family can go everywhere with us and we can buy groceries and other things they may need. I'm also buying them shoes an clothes to bring for them and since it's my first time I don't know what to expect. We are going through a travel agency in miami since here where we live there's not one that specializes in Cuba related trips... Please any adive and info would be greatly appreciated. we are going for 10 days this summer. Thanks again very much..

    • Do they send you back if you show up with no medical insurance?

      Cuba Apr 11, 2013 at 11:24 PM

Hi. I am a Canadian who is planning to go to Cuba (currently travelling in France). Due to my own blunder, I accidentally let my medical insurance lapse while abroad, after I made plans to go to Cuba for my friend's wedding. I cannot seem to purchase any medical insurance while outside of my home province of British Columbia, so I don't know what to do. I would just nix the trip, but I have been reading some confusing information. All the articles I have read say that Cuba accepts provincial health carecards as proof of medical insurance, but some people say they don't accept them. The articles I have read also say that although you MUST have medical coverage to get into Cuba, if you don't have it, they simple make you buy a Cuban policy for 3 or 5 dollars a day. Does anyone know if they send you back for not having medical insurance (I have a provincial health carecard) or if they just make you buy insurance there before letting you in?

I have my return ticket and hotel booked. Surely they would not send me back when I will buy insurance from them. Please, any information about this - travel experiences, general information - will be greatly appreciated. I am supposed to fly in a few days and it was just yesterday that someone told me my carecard might not work. Thanks for any replies. :)

    • Going Solo concerns

      Cuba Apr 8, 2013 at 8:30 PM

Hey, I'm thinking of going to Cuba, Varadero by myself, just trying something new. I was wondering, how would that turn out, in terms of ease in meeting new people (other tourists). I am a bit nervous about it all, but at the same time that's what makes it exciting. I'm thinking of going in may and probably staying in barcolo solymar. Oh yeah I'm a guy.

      Thanks.

    • How do I pick a resort ?

      Varadero Mar 8, 2013 at 4:37 AM

Hi, I am planning to go to Cuba for my honeymoon. We plan to spend 4 nights in Havana & 6 nights in Varadero in May 2013.

1> In Havana, whats better in terms of quality & location between Iberostar Parque & Nacional De Cuba ?

2> Which is the ideal resort in Varadero - lots of choices but can't decide eg. Paradisus Princessa Del Mar, Iberostar Varadero etc.

Please advise. Any additional tips would be great. Thanks

    • Hotel/accommodation where we could hear the sea waves all the time?

      Cuba Feb 17, 2013 at 9:45 AM

Hi, we are going on our honeymoon to Cuba this summer. We want to spend 5 nights in Havana this July. After that we'd like to spend a week or so in a hotel/accommodation right next to the sea where we can hear the waves. It's important that we can hear, even scent, the sea. We don't just want sea views. Would anybody have any recommendations for such a place?

      Thanks very much.

      Cuba Jan 16, 2013 at 12:46 PM

Hi all, I am a US citizen (Cuban born parents).. I'm going in mid February for a 2 month stay, traveling throughout the island. My primary concern is currency. Does anyone know what I need to do to have enough cash on me for a trip that long. Do I need travelers checks? Should I convert to Canadian and convert in Cuba? I really have no idea how this works. Also, if anyone has spent a similar 2 months traveling the island...any general travel tips would be of great help. Thanks in advance. Happy traveling to all Joe

      Cuba Jan 14, 2013 at 7:05 AM

I will be going to Cuba in May for a wedding at a resort, but plan to take a week to travel/backpack Havana, Vinales, etc before that. The travel agent I am dealing with has said we have to have all our accommodation booked for when we enter the country, but I am thinking she is doing this to have us book hotels through her. Can't you backpack and make hotel/casa particulaire plans as you go? Thanks!
