We decided spontaneously to go to Croatia next month for five days. Which seaside-destination you'd recommend? We'd rather prefer lively neighboorhood than remoteness, nightlife is importand, although we rather prefer small pubs and beachcafes than big clubs and techno-discos... Because we come from Austria we do not want go more south than Rijeka to spare traveltime.
I think Pula is place to go in your case. Good (well, great) for nightlife, interesting city to explore and watch people, and they have some decent beaches not too far from city. Plus you can get there by highway nowsadays so it's peace of cake.

Istria seems to be a hotspot, but aren't there places to stay directly at the seaside instead in the city of Pula?

I was in Krk with my parents as a child... So I've no idea what nightlife is like at the island of Krk...

There are some areas on the sea not far from Pula. See Sezana for instance. I've never been there, but it looks like a nice place. Moreover Sezana is the starting point to the Brijuni islands. About nightlife on Krk island I don't know anything.

Maurizio, I think you mean Fazana. Sezana is in Slovenia, pretty far to Pula. As far as PU is concerned, yes, it's city, but outside city you have beaches and camps. If you drive about 6 kilometers south of centre, the beaces are great (Zlatne stijene), there is even a youth hostel where not only young people stay (at Valsaline). Further south you have cape Kamenjak, nice natural landscape which I heard is great for cycling and swimming but little nightlife if that matters. Fazana is little north, a small town which has conncetions to Brijuni NP. These alone are great to spend a day at, and there are some great swimming spots at island. In Fazana alone there are camps and beaches and bars and pubs. I belive everywhere you go these days in main season there are bars and pubs where organized beaches, camps are as well as in coastal towns in villages. Krk is not bad, lots of young people go there as well as other so there's something to do in the evenings/night. If you like something smaller than Pula, try Rabac on the other side of Istria. Or Rovinj, one of most famous tourist spots in Croatia, if you haven't been... it's very lively all year round and lot smaller than Pula. Can't say about becahes there though as I didn't checked them out.
