      Dunfanaghy Jul 1, 2014 at 3:49 PM

Hello, I am spending a week in this area and was wondering if anyone could suggest a possible overnight from here to Dublin for the return leg of the journey. We will be leaving on a Saturday and arriving in Dublin late Sunday eve so a nice overnight and place of interest would be great. We are a party of 2 adults and 3 young children. Many thanks!

Bus tours from Dublin & other Q's (Photography questions)

      Ireland Jul 14, 2014 at 6:40 PM

We are basing ourselves in Dublin and we don't drive. Can someone who has used a bus tour company lately (from Dublin) recommend 1 or 2 bus companies that A) do a really good tour of Cork/Blarney/Rock of Cashel (spending a decent amount of time at each so I can spend some time taking decent scenic photos) and B) do a really good overnight tour to Cliffs of Moher/Burren/Poulnabrone Domen and Kylemore/Galway/Cong without staying in a hostel? I'm an older lady traveling with a 77 year old mother and I don't think she'd like the 'openness' of a hostel. We also want to travel economically so a private tour is out. Also, what time of day (or weather) is good for photographing Monasterboice to get some really good 'atmospheric' shots (will be there in early September). Final Q: I have been digging deep online for any bus company (or even private company!) to give us a private tour of Monasterboice and Mellifont (these are the important photography locations I need to shoot) for under 250euros. Has anyone done one of these tours or know of who I can chat with to get prices from? I don't know who even to contact at the tourism office.

Kinsale is our base for 7 nights. None of us have been to Ireland. What are the top 3 must see's (tourist attractions) AND we love to gamble.... Is there any gambling places, casino's dog tracks, horses etc close? Lastly, thought about a horseback riding trip on the beach. Is there such a thing near Kinsale?

    • Car Rentals in Ireland. Confused About What's Included and What is Not

      Ireland Jul 1, 2014 at 11:50 AM

I am planning a visit to Ireland and I have read many of the posts on this site and other travel sites and find that about five or six car rental companies are recommended. Can someone tell me what their experience has been with the following sites or your rental experience?

      Avis.ie
      Hertz.ie
      Dan-Dooley.ie
      Easytourireland.com (sells Hertz)
      ie.sixt.com
      irishcarrentals.ie

Several have a fully inclusive rate promoted but in some instances they also have a deductible. Confusing.

Is there truly a fully inclusive rate with no surprises at the counter?

Thank you in advance for your response

Visiting Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery in November?

County Sligo Nov 3, 2012 at 11:41 AM

I will be in the Sligo area this month and would very much like to visit the Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery. The trouble is that all of the information I am finding says that the area is only open April through October. Is the entire area gated, fenced, or otherwise closed off in during the 'off season'? Is it possible for me to just park and walk around so long as I understand that the visitor's center is not in operation? Thank you in advance to anyone who can help :-)
      Cheers!

    • TRAVEL FROM SLIGO TO?

      Sligo Jul 9, 2010 at 7:54 PM

After spending a week horsebackriding in the Sligo area, we have 5 days to travel to other areas of Ireland. Are there specific modes of travel from Sligo that make it easy to see other areas. We will be arriving from Dublin by train to Sligo, so would like to go to the Spainish Point area, but am not sure how to get there from Sligo since we will not have a car. Or, should we head to another area. We are very flexible. Are there car rentals in Sligo that allow us to drop off the car in Dublin where we will be flying home? ANy type of information or suggestions would be appreciated? This is our first visit abroad to Ireland.

    • lodging near sligo train station

      Sligo Jun 7, 2009 at 8:57 PM

Can anyone recommend a hotel or B&B in Sligo that is not too far from the train station? (Unless the train station is in a dreadful part of town that you'd discourage staying in.) Main concerns are something accessible to my 93-year-old mom who uses a push walker and can't do a lot of stairs at one time. Did you have occasion to use either taxi or bus from the station to the hotel or B&B? Do you recall the approximate cost?

Going to Co. Sligo for three weeks this summer.I am an assistant to a writer and we will be doing research for a book while there. Where do you suggest we stay? We can stay anywhere in Co Sligo. Ideally, we would like to stay in a house in a village center where we can walk to eat, to a pub. We are open to all accommodations that offer comofort and have charm.

County Sligo Mar 29, 2007 at 9:27 AM

I am a confused Yank whose wife has McGowan roots in the Barney area, near both Cloughboley and Ballyconnell, in something called Ballinfull. I understand that Barney is served by the Cloughboley PO. What exactly is "Barney"? A hamlet? A townland? A civil Parish? And what other POs serve the peninsula that consists of an area shown as Drumcliff on some maps (not the town or village of Drumcliff, which holds the remains of William B. Yeats)? And finally, what PO delivers the mail to Dunleavy's Market and to Ellen's Pub and to the immedaite area around the Carrigans cemetery? Help!!!!

      Sligo Jul 10, 2004 at 9:57 AM

My husband and I have rented a cottage in Easkey for our base as we explore the coast. I can't find much information on the town except that it's well known for surfing. We also plan on getting up to Killybegs since this is where my ancestors Derry's are from and would love any information on the area from those who have traveled or live there. Thanks! Betsy
