Could anyone give me any info about nice, inexpensive hotels around the central market? I'm going to spend the night before my flight leaves in San Jose, and I was hoping to go to the market before taking off the next day. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!
Hi, Don't do it! Instead, do this: Come to Alajuela, just outside the airport as you know. In Alajuela there are some nice places like Hotel Santa Maria or 5th Avenue near the post office, Cheap! There are several others. As for the Station Wagon Bus near the Santa Maria hotel. c275 (colones) Take the direct bus to San Jose, the terminal is near the market....shop till your heart drops.....get back on the bus, come back to Alajuela direct and be near the airport when you leave. Safer! Hopabout!

talamanca hotel is near the market and nice, maybe about 25 USD for a cheaper option try hotel imperial just on the side of the market and only 5 USD...there are sevral place sto stay around the marquet. have fun quime

Thanks for the tips! I will have a rental SUV while I'm there, and I'd prefer to stay near the market so I can leave my baggage at the hotel while I'm at the market. I've stayed in Alajuela previously, so I'd like to stay downtown this time. Thanks for the hotel tips near the market!

Check out Hotel Don Carlos. It is across from the Jade museum. Great rooms and staff.
