    There is a daily bus service from Piazzale Roma, Venice to Cortina operated by ATVO.
    However you will not get much time in Cortina.
    The bus (number 29) leaves Venice @ 0750 hours daily arriving in Cortina @ 1115 hours.
    However, the return bus departs Cortina @ 1515 hours, arriving back at Piazale Roma @ 1815 hours.

    You can book that bus online in advance here:

    atvo.it/index.php?lang=en&ar...

    There is no railway station in Cortina. The nearest station is Calalzo, I believe (quite some distance away). Trains from Venice take from around 3 hours, and then you would need a bus as well.

    Train times, details and fares in English here;

    trenitalia.com/homepage_en.h...

    I'm still searching for the bus information but it seems a very long journey just for a daytrip.

    Yes, that was the train I thought the poster might catch. But I believe an onward bus will still be required?

    The 1100 bus will get to Cortina at 1158, and perhaps the poster could catch a late afternoon/early evening bus back to Calvalzo for the return train? There are trains at 1723, 1853 and 2036 (which is the last train back to Venice). That way he/she could have at least 3 or 4 hours in Cortina.

    If you decide to take a train to Calalzo, you will spend far too much time travelling.
    With your bus trip from Calalzo to Cortina in both directions you will be travelling for almost 9 hours.
    I know the bus service very well that operates from Piazzale Roma.
    This is the quickest and most convenient public service.
    It is also less expensive.
