Cortina in May?

I had planned to drive from Venice to Cortina and spend one night. I wanted to see the scenery and enjoy the town a bit. However, I'm finding most hotels closed during this time. My question is: when I find a hotel will the town be closed up with nothing to do? I'm looking at May 1-2 in 2006. Thanks so much.
