Where is the best (nicest) public beach in this island ? Does Mustang Island more pleasant than S Padre ? Thanks RAY
Hello Ray, The entire island is known as PADRE ISLAND. Padre Island is cut in half by a boat channel that allows ships and boats to get to the mainland without having to sail around the entire island (like the Panama Canal, on a much smaller scale). The top half of the island is known as "Padre Island" and the bottom half of the island is known as "South Padre Island". South Padre Island ranges from the town of Port Mansfield all the way down to Brownsville, right on the Mexican border. SPI is a much more luxurious and popular island for tourists, and the water and beach is prettier. Most people who have been to both Islands will tell you that South PI is prettier and nicer. It's better for vacationing because you get more hotel choices, restaurants, things-to-do, etc. However, getting to SPI is a long drive from anywhere in Texas. Either you make 2-3 day trip out of SPI or go for a quick getaway by going to Padre Island. South Padre Island is worth it. For more info: http://www.spireviews.com
