Perhaps you are having difficulties due to the name being a bit different. The proper name is "Tony's Inn & Beach Resort", in Corozal. It is definately a good choice for the area. Let me know if you need additonal information on Belize.

    Thanks, that helped.
I'm looking into retirement and Northern Belize seems like it may be looking for.
I've been to tropical areas both in the service and vacationing. What I have no real way of knowing is the crime rate, local attitude towards "outsiders" and if
there are any drug routs through the area, into Mexico and the U.S. Any opinions?

Well, there are ways of finding out. I don't particularly want to comment too much on the drug issues and crime rate. I know Belize very well, and will likely end up there myself, although closer to Belize City.

There is a lot of crime in Belize, but not more than in any neighboring countries. Yes Belize is on the Central American drug routes. No denying that. Again, so are all the neighboring countries. Surely you are aware of the drug wars raging in Mexico. Some of the same is raging in the U.S as well.

Why not do some serious research into what life is like in Belize. I have lived in several tropical Edens, including Belize. I like Belize and the people there. Some of the nicest people on the planet. As with any place else, - you show respect, you earn respect.

Read the local major newspaper, Amandala on a regular basis. Get the feel for how things are done, how politics work and also how and what the crimes are and how they are handled. Remember bad news get reported just like in the U.S. Good news are not reported. A friend of some 30 years, was robbed and killed outside of Belize City, in Hattieville. It was a break-in and his head was severed by a matchete. Is that an indication of life in Belize? Not anymore than another friend killed in his suburban house in Southern California, by a stray bullet from a AK47.

Pay attention to the Creole spoken. Often the news are written in Creole English. Check the local TV channels. See what they report as well.

Contact some expats tht already live there. There are several expat websites you can join and ask questions. Who would better know the answers than people that have already done what you are thinking of doing. Join their forums. Ask questions. Here are a couple, but there are more.

Beware of some of the "relocation businesses" - some are pure scams. Hope some of this helps......d:o)
