Madrid-Cordoba by bus

by whyyesno Online Now Jul 19, 2010 at 7:47 PM

Hello all,

i am planing to go from Madrid to Cordoba by bus in the end of July. Can anyone tell me how frequent are the buses on this route? Should I book a ticket in advance or can I just buy one on the bus?
Also what is the trip length?
Would really appreciate some help! :)

Oh that sounds like a long, long journey.

Take the AVE High Speed train instead. You will maximize your time in a charming town such as Cordoba if you are not spending so much time on the road. Spend less time on the rails. Take the train.

Take a look at these web sites.

    travelinginspain.com/train.h...
    gospain.about.com/od/traintr...

Good luck! Enjoy the wonderful city of Cordoba.

I agree, train is a much better option in terms of traveling time...
but as time is not much of an issue and a difference in price is HUGE (train 80-100 euro, bus - around 20 euro, both for one way ticket) we would prefer the bus :)

Bus is not problem, imo, especially when there is considerable difference in pric. refer to www.alsa.es for timetables and fares. imo, there is no need to book in advance until you are there... Night bus is a good option should you want to sane your time and night-stay cost...

I dont know why alsa website is not showing the above connections, but there is a connection, I am 100% sure..

anyway, traveling time is 5-6 hours, and there are multiple buses in one day (atleast 4-5), incluing one overnight bus... I would suggest you to book the bus when you arrive in Cordoba from the bus station. you can further change your bus without extra cost, but subect to availibility

    Hope this helps

Its Socibus that runs this route, www.socibus.es: the website is in Spanish but very easy to use...

6 buses in a typical day, takes 4-5 hours, and the fare is 15.05 Euros...

Buses are reliable and comfortable; takes a brief stop every hour or two. There is an on board toilet also. Fares dont get changed with time and usually they dont run out of seats...

    Hope this helps

SOCIBUS is the regular bus company that does the Madrid to Cordoba and Seville run. It also goes on to other places in Andalucia like Cadiz and Jerez.
Single journey to Cordoba is €15.

leaves from the south bus terminus in Madrid at MENDEZ ALVARO 83.

You should try to buy your ticket in advance. Good luck !

You've been most helpful! Thanks so much. I think I'm going to book with socibus in advance, just to be on a safe side.

    One more thing :)
We'll be staying in the Hostal Tijcal II, it's on calle de la Cruz... can I get some tips on how to get to the bus station? And how much time do we need for this? We'll probably catch the 10 am bus to Cordoba, so I need to know when to leave the hostel in order to be on the bus station in time.
    Thank youu :)

If you go to google maps and start your itinerary in your hostal and mark the coach station as the end of the itinerary and select "walking", you can get the info.

You were right, I am not a student, but I prefeer to use the buses rather than the expensive train...if I am not in a hurry, off course.
    Good luck.

I already did the Google maps thing, but I would like to know how I can't get there by metro for example? or bus?
I know that there is a metro station near the hostel called Sol.

    http://www.ctm-madrid.es/

and use the travel planner in English

Looks like you could walk in a few minutes to TIRSO DE MOLINO Metro station to take the BLUE line south (towards Valdecarros) to Pacifico then change for Line 6 for the Mendez Alvaro metro station. Line 6 is a circular route so make sure you take the right direction. The journey planner should help.
