      Boating at Lake Como

by phingy Online Now Mar 11, 2013 at 7:00 AM

      Hi guys,

I'm planning to go boating at Lake Como during the end of October. I'll be taking a train from Lugano to Como S. Giovanni (I presume this is the train station in Como town?) and would preferably want to take a boat ride early in the morning.

Any idea on the accessibility to the lake from Como town and if the accommodation (hostel) is expensive there?

Also, should I take the water taxi to Bellagio or Varenna? Do recommend!

      Appreciate any advice! THANK YOU!!

by lesleygiff Online Now Aug 11, 2011 at 12:36 PM

Coming from London, which is the best airport in Milan for Lake Como? and also Lake Maggiore? We want to take a taxi transfer from the airport in Milan to a hotel on Lake Como. What is the approximate time by road to the south of the lake? And price if anyone knows? If we decide on Lake Maggiore, say Stresa or Baveno, what would that taxi transfer time be? Many thanks.

One day trip to Lake Como

by karamella Online Now Aug 10, 2011 at 2:54 AM

Dear VT Friends, please help with following. I am travelling to Milan and continue my trip to Verona and Venice. I have one free day on 27aug. when I would make a one day trip to Lake Como. My plan is to arrive to Varenna by train at 09.23 and return from Como around 18.00-18.30... MY questions are: -How far is the Varenna train station from the downtown and the ferry station? -Is there any ferry/boat from Varenna to Como? I did not find any but probably checked the wrong site -How many hours I need in Varenna to look around? -HOw far is the port from Como City center-and which is the nearest train station to the port? (from where shoul I take my train back to Italy central) I have only one day for this trip and do not want to miss any train/boat as I have booked hotel in Milan. Thank you for any advise

Can you swim in the lake in the town of Bellagio? Is the water warm enough to go swimming in early September? I plan to travel to Bellagio from September 10 to 17 and would like to know if I should pack swimming trunks. If you can not swim in Bellagio how far north would one go to be able to swim in the lake - which town?

Como overnight - what to do - hotel

by Nic2004 Online Now Jul 25, 2011 at 12:35 PM

We'll be staying overnight in Como on our way to the adriatic cost this summer (via Mantova and Ostellato/Comacchio, one night each). Well, I guess we'll have some hours in the afternoon/evening after having arrived and then some time the next morning. What would you recommend us to do? Visiting the old town of Como? What are the "must see's"? Do you think we will have enough time to see other places around the lake? Or maybe choose another place for the night at the lake? Could you recommend a hotel (reasonable price with parking facilities)? At the the end of August / beginning of September, they only seem to have pricy ones. Thanks in advance :-)

by mroscishewsky Online Now Jul 7, 2011 at 1:17 AM

I'm planning a trip to Lake Como from September 10 to the 17th. We plan to fly into Milan. I will be traveling with my in-laws, my wife and my 1 year old daughter. What would be the best way to get to Lake Como from the airport? Do I need to buy train tickets in advance? I would like to use public transport for the entire trip - is that possible? Can I take a direct train to a town on Lake Como and be happy with it. What is the best town to go to with elderly in-laws and a one year old? I would rather rent a villa or an apartment - what is the availability of something like that at Lake Como?

travelling from uk to como in sept.Unsure by which means to get to our apartment in Mennagio, Lake Como. Arrive Malpensa in day time. Worried about traffic if hiring a car (husband not driven in europe for few years and never in Italy) and also timings for getting back to airport in time. Not sure whether to give the responsibily to a third party (private transfer) or would we be missing out if we not have car? We are there for 10 days. Public transport could take so long depending on connections?

    • Como to an airport hotel near Malpensa for our final night before flying out

by smithersboy Online Now Mar 1, 2011 at 5:22 PM

My husband will be at the end of our travels and staying in Como on a Tuesday night, flying out of Malpensa on a Thursday morning at 11am. Rather than staying the last night in Como and worrying about getting to the airport on time, we want to travel on the Wednesday by train and/or bus to an hotel near the Malpensa airport that provides a free shuttle bus and hopefully, includes breakfast. I am hoping someone can tell me of an hotel with a free shuttle that we can get to easily by bus/train from Como. Thanks.

    • Suggestions for a three-day stay in Lake Como area

by vdraward Online Now Jul 13, 2010 at 2:17 PM

My husband and I are travelling to the Lake Como area in September. We will be taking a plane from Paris to Milan and then thought we'd rent a car to drive up to the area. We have booked a hotel in Mezzegra - which is in what they call the Tremezzina area. Has anyone ever stayed here? If so, was it easy to find by car. Does anyone know how far Mezzegra is from the town of Como itself? Once in Mezzegra, can we drive to other Lake Como towns such as Bellagio, Mennagio and Varenna? Or - can we only reach those towns by ferry? Does anyone have any "sightseeing" recommendations while in this area? Also - how about good restaurants. We are hoping to use Mezzegra as our base but want to explore the other towns/area by car. Any suggestions or recommendations are greatly appreciated. Oh, by the way, any car rental agencies that someone can recommend? Thank you - all suggestions welcome!

Train from MXP to Lake Como (Trezzone) and from Trezzone to Venice

by rastrent Online Now Jun 15, 2010 at 8:12 PM

I will be flying into MXP early AM on 4 July and will be staying at Villa Tres Jolie in Trezzone. I want to do my trip without renting a car, so I would like to take a train to the Lake Como region. However, I am not sure if I should take a train to Como and take a ferry all the way up the lake or if I should take it to Varenna and make my way to Trezzone from there. I am willing to go a slower way if it will allow for better sightseeing and perhaps a stop in a nice town for a meal. My next stop four days later will be Venice - on that day I will want to be traveling as quickly as possible. Should I return all the way to Como and take the train from there or go via Varenna? In either case, should I purchase my tickets in advance for these trips? Thanks in advance for any help this forum can provide.

Hello, I'm coming to the Como area for the first time, to visit family around Como. I'm first going to Magreglio (uphill from Bellagio) and would greatly appreciate any advice on how to get there. I'm flying into Malpensa and would like to know if I take the San Giovanni train, or the LeNord train. And then which bus? Would it be easier to go to Menaggio and then take a ferry to Bellagio, and then up the hill? Thank's in advance.

How to get to Como from Bergamo (Orio) Airport late at night?

by Busnsandpleasure Online Now May 22, 2010 at 6:44 AM

Hi - looking for help. My flight arrives Bergamo at 2100 hrs and although I can get into Bergamo / Milan easily by bus / train, getting to Como at that time from either of these places is proving tricky since the trains appear to stop at around 2200 (I'll still be making my way from Bergamo at that time). There are transfer options but these are expensive at around 150 euros. There don't seem to be any buses to como at that time - any advice please? Thanks
