I want to get away for the weekend (Bangalore) and was interested in flying to Columbo. Is it worthwhile for 2-3 days? What would anyone recommend? I would go further afield if I had more time Kashmir, Thailand, etc....but thought Columbo would be interesting? Any other recommendations for direct flights from Bangalore?

Hi, I will arrive colombo late night and will go to Anuradhapura in the morning. (First Train from colombo fort to Anuradhapura is start at 0545am) So, how can i go from the airport to Colombo Fort. Hello, I will be traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Dammam, and I have a transit in Colombo, Sri Lanka. I land in Colombo at 7.15AM and depart at 6.50pm. So I am guessing that gives me around 7-8 hours I can go around in Colombo. Please recommend where I should go and why. I would really appreciate it! Thank you!

Where is a good place (neighbourhood) to base yourself in Colombo? Not much into resorts, but I would like to be close to cultural sites in the city and some lively nightlife.

Hi all, I want to take the observer train from Colombo to Kandy. A travel operator is charging me £45 GBP for two tickets - this includes a fee to deliver it to the hotel as there is apparently no scope to collect it on a Sunday - need to travel on Sunday 8th. Does this sound reasonable? Can I just collect them from the railway station on the day or the day before? Thanks x

At first I was looking for a package deal but the quotes I got are expensive I got it a lot lesser 2 years back. Now I'm considering booking all the hotels online and find me a guide/driver with an a/c car for a couple friend on a 14-day honeymoon in Sri Lanka. I saw some guides online but I still find them a little costly, one charges US$50/person/day? I'm not particular about the on-going rates though so maybe that's fair? So if someone could suggest their trusted licensed guide/driver (with an aircond. car) who charges reasonably, I would appreciate that - with email address please. English speaking of course and if he speaks a little arabic, that would be a plus. Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I have a flight on 15th April back to London from Colombo airport and it's at 9am so I will need to be at the airport to check in around 7am. Is there a cheap but clean hotel near the airport? I would not like to be travelling across the city for my early check in :) Suggestions welcome! Ps: is 14th Sri Lankan new year??

Hello I will be driving in Sri Lanka this March/April and understand that i require a Recognition Permit to accompany my international driving licence (...don't you just love pointless bureaucracy). I have a small problem as I will be unable to get to Colombo at all. I believe the only office which dispenses these permits is the AA office in Colombo. Therefore does anyone know of an agent who can obtain the permit for me (I understand a 3rd party is allowed to do this)? Or will anyone be near the AA office (on Sir Mohamed Macan Markar Mawatha road) who is kind enough to do me a small favour?! Please no replies about self-driving as there's enough of these in the forums. Many thanks in advance for any advice.

I will be in Colombo for the next month. There isnt much of a night life in Colombo. I have received reccommendations from some of the people in the offfice here and all of the places seemed to be pretty dead. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could give me recommendations for the following 1. a great place to spend my weekends outside of colombo. 2. Places that have a great night life in colombo 3. Nightlife outside of colombo.

Hi friends, I am supposed to be in colombo for work next week & I think i would be havin atlst 2 days all by myself to explore. Was wondering if you can help figuring out how to make the most of it? Can i cover national museum, dutch museumm, The Zoo & Gangarmaya temple in a day? Wht d be the idea contour for the same? & would it be advisable to rent a car or hop in n out of Trishaw? I m most likely to stay at a hotel on Galle road. How far is evrythin from there? Also, is there some place outside colombo tht I can visit in a day & return? If so, wht would be the ideal mode of transport fr teh same? Was thinkin of goin to kalutara-bentola by train ... is tht feasible? Plz help me. Thanks in advance. Cheers
