I am travelling to Bogota at the end of June and will be staying near la Candelaria.Does anyone know of a centre where I can hand in clothes/shoes for needy children.

You could try the office(s) of the ICBF (Instituto Colombiano de Bienestar Familiar). www.icbf.gov.co The only centre for adoptions I ever visited, some years ago, was "Chiquitines" in Cali.

Better to give cash to a local charity.

Definitely no cash as I was advised on several occasions by locals, even by a Colombian attorney connected to the centre. Clothing, toys, learning material etc. are much better to give as presents for the children and so I did.
