Hi, I'm very ignorant on this so bear with me. Can anyone please let me know if there is other transportation between Colmar and the Franche-Comte region (specfically Belfort) besides the train? Thanks in advance!
Hello, I'm afraid not, from both Colmar and Belfort, the nearest airport is Mulhouse (=> no plane "between") Since the train journey is only 55mn to 1h10 with 1 train about each hour, there are no busses

Jeannette, French rail strikes, aren't they a local custom? ;) Really if it weren't for my possibly missing my return flight home, for sure I would not mind being stranded in Colmar or anywhere else in France!

Well, if depends what you mean by "completely stranded" : if you only have to leave Colmar, there is still hope : if you have to take a plane either in Strasbourg or in Mulhouse (both 65km from Colmar), there are airports shuttles from Colmar to those airports (infos by calling the airports) Form Belfort, i must admit : i don't know - maybe rent a car

My flight leaves from Basel/Mulhouse Euroairport so it's good to know there are shuttles-thanks mariev! We were also investigating car rental from either said airport or in Belfort. Can you recommend any car rental companies? I tried Auto Europe and Alamo for now but nothing came up. Thx. again.

For Mulhouse airport, did you look at http://www.euroairport.com/ ? For Belfort, since the town is deeply linked with Peugeot, the most likely car rental agency would be Avis i think

I also found a taxi shuttle from Mulhouse airport (they have Colmar as destination listed, not Belfort, but who knows ...) http://www.taximulhouseaeroport.fr/
