Service for luggage and train tickets

by Renata1966 Online Now Jun 18, 2012 at 5:03 AM

Can you help me to find out if in Coimbra or Coimbra B stations are available services for leaving luggage for some hours whilest you visist the city?
I would need also to know if train tickets allow you to make stops on your route. For example I come from Porto and go to Lisbon. Can I make a stop in Coimbra and take a later train to continue my trip or I can only by separate tickets from Porto to Coimbra and from Coimbra to Porto. Do the tickets have inscribed on them the number of the train so that they are valid only on that specific train number?

According to the website, Coimbra B has a place where you can leave your luggage.

There are no lockers in Coimbra-B or Coimbra-A stations cp.pt/cp/displayPage.do?vgne....
The tickets have the number of the train, the number of the carriage and the number of the seat, if you are going to do it buy separate tickets.

While I cannot make sense of the link the previous poster gave, the website for Coimbra B station says there is a left luggage facility.

Hmm. The 'Ficha de Estação' for Coimbra-B I am looking at does not indicate there are any luggage lockers and I certainly don't remember seeing any when I was last there. Coimbra is a suburban station and no lockers there either.

(Having said that, hte website still has a Ficha de Estação for Coimbra Parque station which closed two years ago.)

And yes, on long distance trains in Portugal all seats have to be reserved, so for a stopover in Coimbra it is necessary to buy two tickets. And note that Coimbra-B is about 2km from the city centre. There is a frequent local train service into Coimbra itself and local buses.

The Rail Europe site is not a very good place to look for information on European trains or Railway stations, as Rail Europe is not involved in the running of trains, or the operation of stations...

Always look at the website of the company actually running the trains.

At the raileurope.co.uk/Default.asp... site says also "There are no left luggage lockers at this station."

So it does, I apologise for giving incorrect info. I just didn't know that I had to click on "lost property and baggage" which is listed in "facilities". I assumed that that, along with the other things listed, were those facilities available at the station.
