where to buy green (unroasted) coffee beans

Antigua Guatemala Jan 12, 2015 at 4:59 PM

Is there somewhere in or near Antigua where we can buy green coffee beans to roast ourselves back at home? We prefer to buy at a beneficio rather than a tourist store.

      Muchas gracias!

      Guatemala Tour

      Guatemala Jan 7, 2015 at 9:48 AM

We have been thinking of taking a tour to Guatemala & Honduras area. However, the Chikungunya virus is becoming epidemic in these countries and we are in our later years. To help determine our risk of contracting the virus, could you tell us if anyone has contracted or been a group that someone has contracted the virus? Also, we would be in Guatemala City, Tikal, Panajachel and Copan Honduras. Would these areas be fairly safe from mosquitos and potential illness (using insect repellant and proper clothing)?

Does Elizabeth Bell still personally lead walking tours of Antigua? Whom do you recommend we contact to find out if she will be there Jan 30/31/Feb1st? If she is not personally available are there other guides you would recommend who focus on history?

      Muchas gracias!

    • Safety/flooding in coban Guatemala

by pherdman Online Now Jul 12, 2014 at 6:41 PM

About to take my son to coban next week. Any concerns about safety or flooding?

    • Is Coban safe for tourists?

by pherdman Online Now Jul 12, 2014 at 5:59 PM

I am traveling next week with my 11 year old son to Coban, Guatemala and i picked up two disturbing things online. So, I'm wondering if i need to rethink my trip and not go to Coban now.

      Two concerns:
      1) Drug cartels from Mexico in Coban. I should have seen this earlier, but i was just checking on the weather and the safety of the roads due to the heavy rain when i saw a few articles about the fact that cartels were killing people in Coban. Is this still happening? Is this something that happens off the beaten track or should tourists worry about this, should i change my plans?

      2) Flooding. I expected rain in the rainy season, but when i looked at the last ten days, it looked like there were severe rains and i saw flood warnings in other parts of Guatemala. If anyone is visiting there now, or recently, it would be great to get a sense of if this is a real problem or just the typical intermittent rain this time of year.

      Thanks,

      Paul

    • Accommodation in Coban

by Mabelho Online Now Jul 21, 2011 at 9:09 PM

Do you know which web site can I go into to book rooms in Coban. I have read the reviews and would like to book a twin room for 2 nights in September 2011 but can't find a web site that has rooms for Coban. I am particularly interested in Pension Monja Blanca or hotels around that price range.
      Thank you
