Anybody who has been, please tell me all about it. I have never been out of the U.S and need all the tips, hints, and travel info I can get. Going this summer to Acuna!
Have your passport always with out. Do not ever put it in the check-in baggage. Drink lots of water on the flight. Try and get the front row seats on the flight so you can get off the plane early.

Ciudad Acuna is a great border town. Plenty of shopping, restaurants, and nightlife. If this is your first time in a border town, just be aware of your surroundings, but don't be afraid to explore. Acuna is probably one of the safest towns I know of along the border. If your travelling by land, you won't need a passport. US dollars are accepted everywhere. Try Ma Crosby's restaurant and bar for lunch/dinner. It's just a few short blocks away from the bridge. For partying go across the street to The Corona Club. There are several other bars and night clubs up and down the main drag, but these would be good to start in. Straight down the main drag about 3/4 of a mile from the bridge on the right is the Hotel San Antonio. This is a great place to stay. Rooms go from US$40 to US60 a night. Staying here puts you in the center of the action. If there is somewhere away from the main tourist area you wish to go, there are always plenty of taxis around Ma Crosby's. Just discuss price before you choose one. If your driving across you can park in either Ma Crosby's parking lot, or at the Hotel San Antonio. Just slip the parking lot attendant a5 and your vehicle will be fine. I travel there all the time on my motorcycle and have never had a problem. Happy trails, Marc

Thanks! Just one question...did you get insurance coverage for mexico...just in case...thats my concern!

I don't when I'm just going to Acuna, but it wouldn't hurt. If your just going to a border town the insurance for a few days is very inexpensive. Check out Sanborn's Mexico insurance at www.sanbornsonline.com. You can get a quote and buy a policy on-line.

Big problem not to get Mexican insurance. It pays to remember that you are in a foreign country, you are presumed guilty until you are proven innocent (backwards to the US) If you have a wreck, you will lose your car and probably time in the slammer to boot. If you are muy concerned about driving., there is a lot on the US side of the bridge and you can walk across. If you elect to drive, take some loose dollars to pay officers the fine, rather than going to the station. Remember Mexico also has open container laws. Under no circumstances bring in guns, or anything else that can land you in jail if your car gets searched at the border. Add the Corona Club on your adventures. Largest venue of Texas country music on the border.

Thanks to everyone who has replied. Better to be safe than sorry. I am the kind of person who would rather know in advance. LOL Can we bring our own snacks and bottled water over the bridge into Mexico?

Of course you can bring snacks and stuff across, but there's plenty of that over there and it's probably less expensive. Marc

I guess they won't mind if I bring my own water! We leave next week!

Hey, Guess you're already there by now but - if you go back - check out La Macarena (one block over from Crosby's on Madero & about 3 blocks down), the original Tacos Grill down south of La Palapa, & and for floor shows and much more, Hunter's Ranch & The Rio Club (very adult interactive entertainment). Sounds like you been there :). Maybe run into you around Matamoros & Hidalgo sometime. Tomas

Tomas, I've been there many times. I don't think I'll be in Matamoros anytime soon, but I will be in Nuevo Progresso (West of Matamoros, and just across the border from Mercedes, Texas) on October 14th.
