I've sent an email requesting a booking for the Hanmer Connection shuttle from Christchurch to Hanmer Springs. Their website lists the stop location as "Canterbury Museum - Rolleston Ave". Is that likely to be correct or is it likely to have moved post earthquake? I know I can ask the company but I'd like to organise where to stay the night before this evening.... Any suggestions of mid cost (i.e. a step or so above backpacker hostel) to stay for one night near to whereever the bus leaves from at 9am would be good :-)
no reason for them not to leave from Rolleston Ave..there is no traffic disruption on Rolleston Ave there s a YMCA and a YHA in walking distance, a couple of B&Bs nearby and the George Hotel nearby

I have seen many buses start exactly there, including tour buses, so there is no reason for a change. Dorset House (backpacker hostel) on Dorset Street (off Park Terrace which is the extension of Rolleston Ave, bordering Hagley Park) has just reopened. It's a ten minute walk to Canterbury Museum. The YHA is even closer, about 50 to 100 metres from the museum. It is a high-rise building while Dorset House is in a romantic one-storey cottage. Rolleston House, right opposite the museum, has been closed since the earthquakes. Steve mentioned the George Hotel, it is closed until 8 June for cosmetic repairs. As it is a luxury hotel I think it is not what you want anyway.

Thanks for your help guys. Looks like the YHA is still closed... Most other accommodation options in the area are either closed or quite expensive so Dorset House it is... Now to double check we can get to there from a drop off at the airport around 8pm in the evening :-)
