    • Avoiding Crowds on Seorak Trails on Autumn Weekday

South Korea Apr 24, 2015 at 11:28 AM

      Hi Friends,

I am looking at 2 days of hiking/walking in Seorak during peak autumn season end of this October 2015. I would really like to plan such that I can avoid or minimize crowd contact.. I'm planning for weekday hikes but I hear there'll still be plenty of people. What are the best ways to avoid crowds?

I'm thinking of doing (1) Cheonbuldong trail (a very popular one); (2) the Gwongeumseong Fortress (with help of cable car - want to avoid long queue) and (3) Jujeongol Valley (Yongso Falls) - Osaek. I'm open to consider taking other less busy trails.

Is the following a good plan:

      (1) go very early in the morning to get the cable lift up to Gwongeumseong (how early should I go to beat the crowd?),

      (2) upon descend late morning, travel to Osaek (by rented car) to do the Jujeongol Valley trail for an afternoon hike (assuming it's less crowded at this time?) Is this trail open in afternoon ? I read somewhere it closes at 2pm - how true is this?)

I'm assuming Cheonbuldong will be teeming with people by the time I descend so it might not be good idea to do this late morning or in afternoon.

If this is possible, I could try another early morning for Cheonbuldong and hope for the best.

Any advice and thought is most appreciated!

      Thanks!

    • Transportation and Accomodation options in Naju

      Naju Feb 28, 2012 at 6:27 AM

      Hi,

I am planning to visit Naju on 13 Mar 2012, with two teenage children. We will be arriving Seoul (Incheon) Airport on 13 Mar around 7.15am and will make our way to the KTX Yongsan station (Seoul) and thereafter to Naju (arriving afternoon) and will be staying for one night.

      1. Is there a direct KTX service from Incheon airport to Naju?
      2. How do I make a hotel/motel reservation in Naju? (I don't speak Korean)

Many thanks for reading and hope to hear from anyone soon.

      God bless,
      Simon.

    • Korean Grand Prix

      Mokp'o May 25, 2011 at 8:40 AM

      Hi
Will be spending 4 weeks in Thailand around September October time and was thinking of breaking up my holiday by visiting Korea to watch the Grand Prix.

Have already found out the Yeongam circuit is located just outside of Mokpo and that there is a shuttle bus service between the two locations.

Planning to spend a few days in Seoul and then catch a train to Mokpo, stay for the duration of the Grand Prix and then return to Seoul for a few days before flying back to Bangkok.

Was wondering if anyone has been to the circuit before and has any useful info relating to it as can not seem to find an official website.

Specifically is it possible to buy tickets on the gate or better to book in advance?

Also in regard to accommodation, looking for a cheap place to stay, not really sure on the size of Mokpo or the popularity of the Grand Prix and would like to know if it would be recommended to try and book a hotel in advance or whether I should still be able to find a place easily enough on arrival during a busy time.

      Thanks in advance.

      travlad.
