Is it possible to cruise the Yangtse river upstream from Wuhan to Chongqing? If so, are the prices the same as those for the more common downstream trip?
Yes, it's possible to cruise upstream from Wuhan to Chongqing and no, the prices are a bit higher because the trip lasts a day or two longer.

C, you were always correct but I thought the upstream trip costed slightly cheaper (thus not a determing factor!) than downstream. Reason: much larger demand for the latter (most of the tourist groups take downstream). If you do not have much time, or your schedule/itnerary does not allow (like ours), embark from Yichang instead of Wuhan (many people claimed that the segment between Yichang and Wuhan was rather boring). I have lot of details on my Chongqing page on the Yangtze cruise, so take a look if interested but bear in mind the info was of year 2000, with now the 3-gorge dam closed up, I myself am quite puzzled on how they let the cruise ships pass the locks which seems not completed yet. Anyone please correct me! :) Thank you!

Thanks to both of you for the reply... It's good to know I still have both options open (and can still do the opposite of what normal people do)
