Hello all, I'm arriving in Chicago on Saturday at 11 pm to spend the Memorial Day weekend in the city. I'm arriving at Union Station and must reach my accommodation in the Lincoln Park area. Please confirm if Chicago is safe enough at that hour of the night to go to my hostel by using the metro/bus and by walk, or if I must take a cab. Also don't know if it's safe to be around by myself in the evenings, especially in the Lincoln Park area, the Navy Pier and the Millenium Park. Thank you for any advise, much appreciated! Flor de Maria
I would never advise any women of any age to walk alone in any big city they are familiar and especially if the are unfamiliar with by themselves at that hour of the evening. Please take a cab to your destination that night.

The answer to your second part of your question. There will be plenty of other people in the Lincoln Park area, Navy Pier and Millenium Park during the evening hours and all 3 are safe areas because of the number of locals and tourist. Since you are from the Washington D.C. Area you obviously know enough to know when very few people are around or no one is around is when there is a potential for danger. And I will reiterate my first posting when you do arrive in town late Saturday night at Union Station please take a cab. It is several miles to Lincoln Park and Union Station is just east of some areas in Chicago that are not the best.
