I will be in Chicago for one night only - May 13 - which is a Sunday. I'm having trouble finding something fun to do on a Sunday Night. Can you recommend anything? I'll be staying in a hotel near O'Hare, but have a car. Thanks so much.
Sunday night is a quiet night in many cities as everyone is getting ready for the work week. What is your idea of fun? What hours are you looking at?

Thanks for replying. I've never been to Chicago so I'd be happy to do anything that gets me out of my hotel room: jazz music, tours, Chicago style pizza are a few things that come to mind. I will arrive at 8 pm and fly out at noon the next day so I can be out late.

Look at the schedule at the Green Mill for jazz, it's on the northside of Chicago. The neighborhood is OK as long as you park near the Green Mill, just use caution when leaving the venue. Downtown there's Andy's. Pizza you can find near the airport but the crowd will be travelers, there's a Giordano's very close to O'Hare. All of the theaters are operational on Sunday night, you can go see a Broadway style play like Jersey Boys, performance art like Blue Man Group, a number of plays and musicals, Second City for a comedy show. Of the longer playing shows I really enjoyed "Million Dollar Quartet" and "The Doyle and Debbie Show". I've got to run right now but if you come back, I can recommend a few more things this evening when I have more time.

I would check out Chicago Reader - events section. You can search by the date you are visiting and you can see what tickles your fancy in terms of music, theatre, art, etc. If you decide that you don't want to venture that far, I would recommend dining in Edison Park which is a 5 minute drive from O'Hare. There are some really good neighborhood restaurants including Nonno Pino.

Another jazz venue is Jazz Showcase, in the south loop (806 S. Plymouth Court). Sunday the 13th will feature the Rose Collela quartet for a jam session. Cost is10 plus drinks. There's street parking on the too-expensive metered streets, plus a nearby parking lot. You can also take the Blue Line from O'Hare, get off at LaSalle and walk the 4-5 blocks to Jazz Showcase. There's a Lou Malnati's pizza restaurant just a block from Jazz Showcase, just south of 8th Street on State. Their pizza is fantastic. You can also join Goldstar and see what they have to offer (all half-price) on Sunday evening.

Oops, forgot to define the Blue Line. It's a CTA train that leaves from the airport and goes through the city and then west. There are signs in the airport to direct you that will say "CTA Trains" Let us know what you did and if you had a good time!

Thanks so much for the great ideas! I'm really excited to be visiting Chicago. I'm really sorry that I won't be able to stay for longer.
