transportation to and from Manchester Airport

by louiseks Online Now Feb 25, 2004 at 1:06 PM

Hello I am planning to go on a narrowboat cruise that departs from Chester and goes to Llangollen.. with the Dawn and Dusk ... I am looking forward to join them since I cannot walk large distances and I love to go on a boat . I will bring my scootie (a foldable little scootmobile) The advise is to travel from Amsterdam to Manchester Int Airport.. I would like to know how much the cab fair would be from the Airport to a nice Hotel in the City Center or even better is there a hotel with shuttle service.. Furthermore I will have to back to Machester Int. Airport from Llangollen. Should I go by train to Chester and take a cab from there or does anyone have a better option Thanks in advance Louise

hi the taxi will probably costa a fortune! i would take the train from manchester airport to chester! manchester airport has got a railway station. you will have to change the train once (probably in manchester ). timetable and fares can be checked at www.nationalrail.co.uk. it is possible that there is a coach wich does the route. check www.gobycoach.com greetings, mabü

Take a train from the airport station into Piccadilly station and there are two hotels in nearby Picadilly Gardens you could choose - either the Britannia or the Picadilly Gardens. I stayed at the Gardens a few years ago and it was fine. Near G - Mex tram station is a better hotel called Jurys which is nearly new and my favourite Manchhester hotel. You could take a taxi from Picadilly station to either or could you ride your scootie and look after your luggage too? I think the scootie will go on a tram - the tram system is called Metrolink and they are on the web. I think a taxi from the airport in to town would be at least £12. There is a good train service to Chester from Piccadilly and the ride through the Delamere forest is nice. Coming back from Llangolen the nearest railway station is Ruabon - you could pick up a train here which I think will go to Chester. E mail me with any other questions. My wife is in a push wheelchair and we are thinking of buying a scootie.I would be interested to know how you get along with it on your travels.

I had great luck taking the National Express Coach (bus #381) directly from Manchester Airport to Chester. Check out the Chester Transportation tips for the details.

The bus to Chester from the airport is the most sensible and economical option assuming your buggy will go on as luggage which I expect it would, go to http://www.nationalexpress.com and hunt around for bsu times there and back. you can get a bus from Llangolen to Manchester airport but it only leaves at 7.45am and goes round the world to get there taking over 5 hrs. Let me know what time you intend to set off from Llangollen and what time you need to get to the airport and I'll have a look at local options for you.
    Cheers John M
