i was planning a trip from cherbourg to florence italy by train ,is there a bus or train direct to florence or italy from cherbourg, thanks francis
I believe you first have to go to Paris, Lille o Metz and from there take a train which has an international route to Florence. It's a long trip You may think about a plane from Lille to Pisa with a Ryanair's flight then Florence it's very easy to be reached by train.

given the distance involved train would be better, and TGVif your budget allows. you may not get a direct link from Cherbourg, but you will get a wide range of destinations from Paris.

Hi, Just had a look at sncf.fr. You have to go through Paris. Trains from Cherbourg take you into Paris St. Lazare, then across by metro to Gare de Lyon and there TGV to Florence. There is even a night train from Paris-Bercy if you fancied a sleeper. Could find no buses without going through Paris.

I found a journey of 16hrs 55 minutes using 1. Train Cherboug leaving 1346 arriving Paris St Lazare 1646 2. Cross Paris by Metro to Paris Gare de Lyon 3. TGV Paris Gare de Lyon leaving 1758 arriving Lausanne 2152 4. Train Euronight Lausanne leaving 2220 arriving Florence 0641am You can also leave Cherbourg at 1700 arrive Paris St Lazare 1946 and take the night train from Paris Bercy at 2033 to Milan thence a train to Florence arriving at 0839. However this option has a short connection time across Paris and any delay on the train from Cherbourg could lead to problems.
