Hi,
I would like to visit Chennai somewhere in June.I planned to stay there for 5days and 4nights. I would like to appoint a tour guide just for 2days basis who can ptake me around to lvisit the temples, historical places, beaches ang shopping spot. Could anyone tell me on how to go about it since it is my first visit there. I would like to know roughly the charges as well.Since i already booked the hotel i dont want to stay anywhere else in that 2days.I want it like daily trip.Pls advice.
1. June will be blisteringly hot and humid in Chennai.
2. Your hotel may be the best people to guide you as your safety concerns become their duty. Talk to them first.

You can see chennai , Tirupathi , Kanchi, Madhrai, Tanjavur by using prilimenery booking . Its a good sopt to be surround the temples . No need to worry . if you already had your hotel booking then contact Local travels at hotel upon arrival for Taxi with normal fare. or else you can book through www.Merucab.com.

I would highly, highly recommend using the services of Deepa from Chennai Magic (http://www.chennaimagic.com/). Her tours are top notch (not sure of your budget). She comes recommended by Conde Naste, Frommers, and is a winner of TripAdvisor's Certificate of Excellence. She will put together any kind of custom tour you like.
If Deepa is over your budget, I would suggest getting a driver and guide from your hotel. I think it is a good idea to have a good guide to see Kanchipuram & Mamallapuram and I recommend seeing both (not far from Chennai).
If you like, take a look at my Kanchipuram page (Sacred City - Kanchipuram, India and my Mamallapuram page ("The Shore Temple and more...." - Mamallapuram by Donna_in_India for ideas of what to see.
Have a wonderful time!

Actually you do not need a guide to do sight seeing in Chennai. Buy a good tourist guide book and you can find all the info in it. Kancheepuram and Mahabalipuram are must visits. You should engage a guide in Mahabalipuram. On the way to Mahabalipuram you can visit Thiruporur. you can check my pages for more info. You could also do a day's visit to Aurobindo Ashram and Pondicherry if that would interest you.
The heat is an issue in Chennai almost all round the year unfortunately. Drink plenty of coconut water, carry hats/caps/water bottles. Also opt for an a/c car to go around.
Hope you have a good trip,
