My husband and I will be arriving in Charlottetown aboard a cruise ship October 19th. from 12 to 6. We are interested in finding a private guide to show us the sights in the short amount of time we have there. Anyone know of a person who will be willing to show us around? Or are we better off just winging it on our own? Thanks for the help! Lu
if you get an offer of a tour guide, you could take it but charlottetown is not very large and you could easily get around on your own. another thing i might consider is renting a car and taking a drive up to the cavandish beach/north rustico area. split your time with a few hours there and a few hours in charlottetown.

You do not need a private guide to see PEI.Order the PEI Tourist Guide from the PEI Department of Tourism and rent a car. PEI is really a July August place and most things will be closed in August .

Check out where your cruise is stopping. With only 6 hours, you want to have some idea where you want to go, how to get from one point to another, etc. before you go. US driver's license is good in Canada, so a rental car is a good idea, but there should be organized tours available that will allow you quicker access. Here's a few websites for info: www.visitcharlottetown.com www.city.charlottetown.pe.ca/cityhall/tourism www.charlottetowntourism.ca www.charlottetown.worldweb.com (check Activities & tours - bikes, limos, vans and walking tours available)

In October, there isn't much going on in town, but you don't really need a private guide. If you're only staying for 6 hours, just stay around downtown Charlottetown. Most places around Peake's Quay (where the cruise will most likely arrive) are closed after the summer is over, but there are lots of other places to check out - Confederation Centre of the Arts, Province House, St. Dunstan's Basilica (and many other churches in the area), etc. If you want to go shopping, there is a shopping mall on Queen street and various other smaller stores.
