The Battery is a park-like area, there is no charge to enjoy it. It is in the Historic District of Charleston on the Ashley River. Charleston is a walk friendly city with much history. The Battery is a nice walk from the Market, many wonderful restaurants, antique and art shops, port, museums, historic churchs, homes and buildings galore. For those who have difficulty walking, there are horse drawn tours with excellent guides. Some things to see, but not free are: Charleston Landing (original settlement), Fort Sumter, Patriot's Point, Aquarium, Armed Forces Museum, plays, concerts and much more. On the nearby islands are beaches, light houses, the HUGE Angel Oak and more forts. There is much to enjoy in Charleston.
