SO MUCH TO SEE - is this too much?

      Livorno Sep 17, 2015 at 3:31 PM

Ciao! We are in the port of Livorno for ONE DAY - so this is challenging. Do you think the following proposed itinerary is too much for the time we are off the ship? (9 hours)

Drive from Livorno to Firenze (via private car) stop at Piazza Michelangelo for a quick snack & cup of coffee, then drive to see Piazza del Duoma (aka Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral). Not planning on going inside, just sitting and staring at it in awe for a little while. Then a jaunt over to the Ponte Vecchio to WINDOW shop. Overall, I was thinking that would be about three hours in the city.

(Note: We were in Florence for a week in 1997, so I have done some extensive sightseeing there. I know the museums all have loooooong lines, so I was not planning on going to any of them. I would need another week long trip to do that any justice.)

THEN... from Firenze, we are hoping to drive through Tuscany (maybe stop at one vineyard, maybe not) and spend a few hours in San Gimingano. (we love it there).

We figured out drive time to be approx 4 hours, which if we have 9 hours, that gives us 5 hours to sight-see.

What do you think? Thanks for your input! Mille Gratzie!

    • location of bus stop Nr. 128

by monika_gulacsi Online Now Jun 28, 2015 at 1:41 AM

Hi, could someone help me? I would like to know where is the bus stop Nr. 128 exactly?
We intend to travel to San Gimignano with this bus.
I saw its bus timetable that the bus stop is at V.Mazzini but next to it there is a train icon.
So I don't know if we should search for its bus stop next to the train station (as we walk through it) or 2 streets away from train station (at V.Mazzini).
      Thank you for the answer.

Any info on the new apartments near the Funicular?

by PeterCac Online Now Dec 14, 2008 at 12:56 PM

We are going back to Certaldo in 2009 and noticed when we were there in 2006 that someone was extensively renovating the building near the funicular.
However, I can not find any rental information on those apartments.
Does anyone know anything about those apartments?
If you enter a forum answer that is great, or you could email me at .

      Certaldo- what is it like?

by PeterCac Online Now Feb 14, 2004 at 8:16 PM

Q: We will be staying in Alto Certaldo at the end of April. Anybody been there to coment on what it is like and whether the cable car to Certaldo at the bottom of the hill is a pain or convenient. Are there enough stores and restaurants, etc in old Certaldo at the top of the hill or do you find yourself going down the hill all the time. Is parking convenient for day trips to Sam G. Siena, Florence , other small towns etc.? Or perhaps we should take a bus or train to the nearby cities/towns? Any references in Certaldo you can give us, like a tourist guide, etc that were real good? We will be two couples staying in a nice apartment in Alto Certaldo. We have not found much on the web about what Certaldo has. My direct email is if you want to use that. Thanks, Peter
