We are 5 adults (with luggage) who will be disembarking at Port de Grenelle and traveling to Tours in Sept. We thought it would be easier to take a taxi from the boat, rather than a taxi to the train. Is there a taxi or car service that could accommodate us?
Hello everyone, I will be arriving at 640am to Charles de Gaulle Airport Paris, and I need to go to Blois.
I find it a little expensive to take a train from CDG T2 to Saint Pierre Des Corps at 4km of Tours, and then another train to Blois - Euro 68, on 7th June.
The other method seems to be to take the RER from CDG to Paris Austerlitz and then a Intercites train down to Blois. However, the train to Blois is at 0738 or at 1238, which 12.38pm will be a little late for me as I want to try to visit both Chambord and Cheverny in a day...and yet 07.38am at Paris Austerlitz is too rush for me since I land at 6.40am.
Does anybody know of a bus from Paris to Blois? Or a slightly cheaper but pretty fast way to Blois from CDG?
Thank you...
I will not have a car when traveling in France. How would I travel from Chartres to La Ferté St Cyr? And how would I travel from Charles De Gaulle airport to La Ferté St Cyr?
We had planned to spend June 20-22 cycling the Chambord area. Game Fair, a hunting fair, is that weekend. Is it safe to cycle the area during a hunting show? Will people actually be shooting? How crowded will this be? Is this a gun show? We are thinking of changing our itinerary. Thank you for your help.
Hi I am coming over on a business trip and wanted to see what can I see after 5 around Tours, or is it dangerous for a single woman to go late in the evening?
We are looking to travel for two weeks over Christmas this year. Would anyone know of houses or an apartment for rent in the village ?
My wife and I are staying in Sancerre for 3 days in early October and would like to tour the local wineries/vineyards around Sancerre via a bike. Mainly for one day, is there anyplace in town to rent a bike? Is this something we need to make advanced arrangements? Also, any previous routes discovered that one is willing to share? :) Thanks! Michael
I would like to have a day trip to Villandry Chateau, and would like to know how to get to the Chataeu from Tours if not driving. Thanks
I'm planning to visit the Loire valley next month. The plan I have in mind is to travel from Paris to Chartres, Chartres to Amboise, Amboise to Loches, Loches to Tours, Tours to Azay-le-Rideau, Azay to Chinon and from Chinon back to Paris. To and from Paris I plan to travel by train, but want to know if there are bus services between the other towns I plan to travel to. I plan to do these rounds in two days! Erika
For reasons too complicated to explain here, I need to take a shuttle or a taxi from the train station in Tours to Amboise on a Saturday evening at about 8:45. Does anyone have any information on available shuttles? Are there taxis available at the train station? Thank you!
Hi guys! Im planning to visit Sancerre in the beginning of September this year. I will be traveling from Paris and want to know how I can get there with public transport. Is there a direct train to Sancerre? What recommended wine farms are there? What suggestions would you have for us in the surrounding area? Thanks for all the help! E
Does anyone know the name or the history of the large painting over the altar in the Chapelle Vendome? I think it is Mary and Joseph with Joachim and Anne, Mary's parents, but do you know any more about it? Many thanks.
My family is spending three weeks in Europe. We're considering renting an apartment in Marseilles (we'll be travelling to Northern Italy, Switzerland, the South of France, etc), but someone recommended that we try to swap our home with another family in the area. What are people's experiences with these sorts of agencies? Can anyone recommend a website or agent who does this and is trustworthy?
I would like to travel by train from Tours to Chenonceau. Is this relatively easy or do I need a car? Would prefer the train if possible.
I have only 4 days to visit the Loire Valley. So, I would like to know which cities should I stay and how many castles could I go? Which of them? Please, I need a help! Denize.
Hello! I will be visiting Tours with my wife and 4-year old son next week and would greatly appreciate input on favorite family-oriented activities. If you had two days to spend, how would you fill the time? Obviously with a 4-year old we will unfortunately not be doing any bike rides but we are open to hiking and touring by car. My wife wants to see gardens and castles... I'd like to see interesting architectures and areas of historical importance. Staying at the Clarion Chateau Belmont. Would it make sense for us to hire a car during the day for tours? Take a bus? Arrange tours at the hotel? I'm basically starting from scratch. Also a specific question on the train... we will take a train from Paris to Tours on the first day... what is the best way to get to hotels from the train station in Tours? Are there plenty of taxis or should we arrange something ahead of time? I will continue to read through this forum for ideas, but wanted to get this posted given the trip is next week. Thanks for your input!! Travis
What would be the best way to get from Bayeux in Normandy to Chartres? Or alternatively from Mont St. Michel in Normandy to France?

Would like to stay in Loche for 5 days and have been checking out the trains. Most sites mention RailEurope/Railpass etc which I have checked. Have just found another train line 'bonjourlafrance.com' which is rearely mentioned, can anyone give me info on these trains and train line. We are trying to get to Bayeau from Loche and this train has the best route thru Tours otherwise we have to go back thru Paris. Thanks
I only have time to go to one of the these two towns because I am biking from Tours for a few days. If I only have one day to do sight-seeing, would Blois be a better choice than Orleans? Thanks to all you nice VT users for your responses, in advance :)
Sorry, I have asked many questions re this problem but HELP PLEASE, we decided to use Loche as a base for a 5 day stay. We have to rely on public transport, happy to just walk in the area with a visit to a Chateau. Our problem is we would like to move onto Bayeux to see the tapestry. Have to return to Tours to pick up a train but the main problem is it will take about 6 hrs to get to Bayeux where we will only stay for 2 nights. Can anyone advise a better base for 5 days (prefer little village) with a better connection to Bayeux. As we don't know the village names it makes it difficult to enter connections into the train/bus websites. Appreciate any advice.
I will be visiting Tours in September 2011 with my wife and two teenaged children. We arrive at the Tours Train Station at around 9.30 a.m. and will be returning the same evening. Does the Tours City Council or the Tourism department operate any half or full day bus excursions to the nearby Chateaus? I have been checking the private tour operators and they seem to be a bit steep to me simply for travel from Tours to one or two chateaus! Also, which would be the best option to have lunch in Tours? Thanks in advance for your guidance. Sanjay GROVER

Sorry if this has already been discussed but could anyone advise if Amboise would be a good base for 3 ladies who will have to rely on public transport. We would like to vist a Chateau but mainly interested in walking in the countryside or exploring little villages that are accessible by bus or train or even hiring a bike. We will be coming from Paris by train, from what I have read we will arrive in Tours and then take a bus to Amboise. Thanks
Stopping at Tours for one night. Need twin accommodation near station (we do not have a car) costing no more than 108 euros. Any suggestions please?
Staying 5 nights in Loches, can anyone advise if there are some countryside walks or maybe even taking bus to small village to do some walking. Also interested in visiting Tours, Amboise, Blois or other villages and maybe a chateau - how accessible is public transport ? Any info on things to do or see would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
We'd like to have some help planning our trip from CDG airport to Amboise where we are renting an apt. Understand best train connection may be from Gare Austerlitz. What is best way to get from Airport to Austerlitz train station?
Hi! I would like to travel from Chartres to Orléans, preferably by train. Are there any trains? Is there a bus to catch? How long time does it take? Best regards Eva-Li
I plan a holiday in the Tours area and would like an English speaking driver for day trips, vineyard/restaurant visits etc. Does anyone know of such a service that is not too expensive?
My wife and I and another couple will be staying in a gite very close to Ruffec. Dates: 28th July - 1st August We'd like to get the most out of the visit in the short time we are there. What can people recommend? Likes: Wine, cheese, a little bit of site seeing, French culture. Dislikes: Pretty easy going, open to suggestions.
