Hi
I will be in Kandy on 17 August. It will be the date of the Kandy 3rd Randoli Perahera festival.
I'll be staying in the hotel Amaya Hills and need information on how to go/and return from the hotel to the place of Kandy Perahera.
It is also necessary to pay a ticket or is a public event?
I appreciate any information
Hi, we are three adults traveling to Nuwara Eliya. Which would be the best area to stay in Nuwara Eliya? We are looking out for hotels in the range of 7000 - 12000 lankan rupees per night. Please share your suggestions.
Hi, I will be turning up in Kandy on Thursday or Friday. A solo backpacker, I would like to find a place for around10 or less per night...I dont mind if I have to sleep with monkeys :) Are there beds for that price and within walking from the train station, Thanks, Paul Holmes. UK
Hi hi, I am a backpacker heading to Sri Lanka in a week's time. What would be the recommended itinerary? I will be staying in Negombo before heading to kandy and then to the hill country. i would like to be able to go horton plains and adam's peak. How many days would be sufficient to go around the hill country and where else would be recommended to go? After the hill country, i would like to head down to the beaches in the south. i heard that mirissa and unawatuna should not be missed. how do i go about arriving at any of these destinations from the hill country? are there public transport available and how long would the journey take? Thank you.... : )
Hey, After doing (self drive) the A2 from Colombo to Matara and back, we took the train to Kandy, where we are now. We would like to explore the central province also by self drive but we find it quite hard (read: impossible) to find a rental car. Because I'm 6'8'' a small car doesn't fit.... (However I'm not looking for a SUV in particular.) Does somebody already rented a self drive car in Kandy? Where was the car rented? Was the car, the service and the price ok? We are hoping for some quick responses because we are only staying here until Saterday (We would like to rent from wednesday to Saterday). Looking forward to your feedback. Greetings, CG&KC
Hi all, I know this might be attracting a lot of seller replies. I need to go from Kandy down to Mirissa (Matara) and I know there is no train service anymore. Can you advise on cars/drivers to hire? How much would this cost me? I'm currently being quoted by Red Dot tours nearly200...!
Hi, i plan to visit Srilanka in Nov end. suggest a itenerary. Sanjay Waghela
We would be staying at Grand Hotel. How far is Gregory Lake from the hotel ? Any other places within walking distance from this hotel ?
I've looked at the schedules and it looks like you can go direct from Colombo, but not from Kandy to Nano Oya, is that right?
How long does a car journey take from Colombo to Nuwara Eliya (and also from Nuwara Eliya down to a) Bentota and b)Unawatuna?
Please give me idea as i will be traveling with my wife. Suggest me a safe mode of transportation of the location mentioned in the subject. Also, return from the St.Andrew hotel to Colombo Hotel?
Can any one tell me the places where cheap food is available ? i am traveling with my wife, and i am muslim so i will be needing halal food. Or can you suggest what is the average price per meal per person in nuuwara eliya? Many thanks
Hi, Im wondering, if someone can tell me what time Kandy Perahara starts? And also what's the best place to watch it without being pushed around.. Is it hard to find accommodation in Kandy around that time?
Hello, My fiance and I are travelling around Sri Lanka and want to get to Kandy from Kalamatiya, which is close to Tangalle. We are open to train travel or car hire but want to do the quickest as we would like to spend some quality time in Kandy but have only one night there. Any suggestions? Thanks, Lucy
I'm looking for accommodation in or very near Kandy, and finding that only the most expensive hotels have swimming pools. I wondered if it was worthwhile stretching the budget for this ........... or will the water be too cold to be enjoyable (I realise temperatures dip low at nighttime)? I will be there next January.
Can anyboby help us with good, clean guest house in Dambulla in february, and will we need to book a/c. Thank you

Hi, Does anyone know a good hotel near to the Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawala? Ideally we'd want rooms with air conditioning,hot/cold water and secure rooms. Someone's mentioned the Hotel Elephant View - does anyone know it? Many thanks
Hiya We're going to Sri Lanka in mid-May and want to stay near to the Elephant Millennium Sanctuary at Randeniya, Hiriwadunna in Kegalle. Does anyone know of a nice hotel or even private villa for approximately 5 people, 3-4 star, with hot water fairly nearby? Also do you know how long it would take to drive from Kandy to the sanctuary? Thanking you in anticipation!
hi! just wondering if you all could recommend some safe and inexpensive guesthouses, hotels or hostels to stay in. i heard a lot of good things about the pink house--anyone have their contact info and address? thanks!
I understand that there isn a really nice farm to stay on near kandy the owner is a super cook and most welcoming does anybody have any information please Jeannie
This may seem like an unusual query. During my visit to Nuwara Eliya last year, I visited a small church in the hills. I am unable to recall its name. Its situated a little after St Clairs Tea Centre, on the opposite side of the hill. (Closer to Nanu Oya railway station) Can anyone tell me the name of this church? Its important, so please help!
I am a budget traveler, used to traveling in a group, but i will be travelin alone this time round and wanted to know bout cheap accomodation in Colombo. Im willing to shell out 5 to 10 dollars for a day, and by cheap i dont mean a junkyard, like maybe Im looking for a good deal here. Or do any locals offer cheap and neat accomodation. Something i can book in advance before reaching Colombo and dont get looted by agents at the airport. I have an open ticket and might travel in August or december!! I asked a Sri Lankan VT'er the same question but unfortunely he is too busy. All replies will be really appreciated thnx in advance.
We have hired a jeep to take us into Horton Plains and to see The World's End. How far does the jeep usually take you into the Plains, and how far is the trek to The Worlds End? We'd also like to know what sort of foot wear would be appropriate for this terrain. Obviously stilletoes and flip flops are out of the question, but would trainers suffice, or are a good pair of walking boots/light trekking shoes needed? Any info about this trip would be good. We are staying at the Tea Factory in Niriwa Eliya (apologies for spelling)and think this trip may take nearly a whole day.
A group of us are planning to visit Kandy and Dambulla. From Dambulla, is there a bus to Colombo – preferably AC Bus starting from Dambulla – as the transit buses are crowded and we cannot get seats. Alternatively, we could go to Dambulla first by AC Bus from Colombo and then from Dambulla travel to Kandy. Are there buses from Dambulla to Kandy - preferably AC Bus starting from Dambulla – as the transit buses are crowded and we cannot get seats. Any information on frequency of the above buses would be very useful.
I wanted to know the time it takes to travel to Dambulla from the International Airport. I have a baby and cant travel too long. So how many hours? Thanks!!
Our family of 4 will be visiting Sri Lanka next February. We are booked on a pkg holiday with stays in Kandy and Bentota, but would like to see a bit of the Hill Country area on our own. If we were to forfeit one nights hotel at the beach (or Kandy) and take the train to Nuwara Eliya from Kandy (staying in Nuwara Eliya one night), would it be possible to hire a car and driver to take us from Nuwara Eliya to World's End (wait for us while we hiked in and out), then drive us to Bentota to our hotel? How long would the drive take (not including waiting time)? Approx. how much would it/should it cost? Would we be better off doing this as an outing from Kandy and returning to Kandy? Any help greatly appreciated.
