    • Best train station to go to after docking in Civitavecchia to head to Venice

      Civitavecchia Mar 31, 2015 at 6:24 PM

We will be docking in Civitavecchia, from there two of three couples are getting a car service up to Florence to finish their trip. One couple is heading to Venice. Would it make sense to tag along up to Florence and take the train from there to Venice, or head to Rome to take the train. I realize that Rome is closer to the port, but wondering if the craziness there would make for a more difficult commute.

      Hi there

I have bought 2 non refundable Economy premium train tickets from Rome to Milan for May 10th 2015 leaving Roma termini at 9am and arriving to Milano Centrale at 11:55 .

Problem is my travel plans changed and i wont be needing anymore.

The price of both tickets is 98 euros. Ticket price includes a snack on board and 2 seats next to each other.

Would there be anyone interested in buying them from me ?

      Thank you

    • Driving 8 people from Rome to location to rent from, best route to!

      Rome Apr 6, 2015 at 8:08 AM

      Hi All!
We are travelling to Italy to celebrate the 70th birthdays of our parents. It will be a group of 8 adults (me/my husband, both sets of our parents and his sister and husband). We will spend the first 3 days in Rome and then move onto Chianti for 3 days and lastly Venice for 3 days.

Last time my husband and I went to Rome/Tuscany we took the train from Rome to Florence then rented a car in Florence, however this time we're considering renting a van straight from Rome because it seems easier to drive then to coordinate 8 people (including 4 70 year olds) for the train. My questions:

      - Is this a crazy idea? I've read about the driving in Rome, is it really that hard to navigate?
      - If we do drive, can you please recommend the best location to pick up the car- so that we can avoid massively bad traffic areas and any restricted driving areas?
      - Is it difficult to drive a van in Italy? We will need a large van given there are 8 of us plus luggage...
      - Can you please recommend a scenic driving route with the option for 1-2 stops along the way from Rome to Gaiole in Chianti? We are staying here:

train from airport to cruise terminal

      Rome Mar 31, 2015 at 6:22 PM

We are arriving at Fiumicino Airport and taking the Regionale train to Civitavecchia to begin our cruise. We have been on the Trenitalia website and select the trains we wish to take however we are unable to book these. Do we need to book or just arrive at station and purchase return ticket. If we need to book is there a reason we are unable to select specific trains.

Any help/tips/advice is very much appreciated

      Safe travels

Please recommend an airport (FCO) hotel for our last night in Rome. We would prefer one with shuttle service, but not necessarily a requirement. Thanks,

    • Artemide Hotel or Hotel Manfredi Suite for 70th birthday trip of my parents?

      Rome Apr 6, 2015 at 8:15 AM

      Hi All!
We are a group of 8 travelling in Rome May 30-June 2. I would like to book a hotel in a great location to minimize walking (will have 4 70 year olds with us) as well as a luxury hotel as it's a special birthday trip for my parents. Any thoughts between the two hotels below? Thank you!

    • Train Tickets

      Rome Mar 30, 2015 at 3:20 PM

I read on tripadvisor that you must use an Italian credit card (??) to make reservations on trenitalia. Does this mean that I cannot use AMEX to purchase a ticket prior to my trip? I would like to buy in advance because I understand that it is cheaper.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    • Rome / Vatican prefer Thursday? and a few repeat items

      Rome Apr 3, 2015 at 11:02 AM

      Maybe I'm over-thinking this.
Arriving Rome Wednesday afternoon and staying in Trastevere a stone's throw from (is it?) Tiber Island. Will chill there Wednesday evening.
We're thinking of an early Thursday morning Vatican Tour (Group - I need a guide 3 or 4 hours - at most), then a walk to Borghesi with lunch along the way.
As we're planning on the Coloeum, Forum, etc next morning and an Opera recital at Sala Cavour - Centro Congressi Friday evening, Would it be practical(even preferred) to see the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain afterward (say 22:00)? Seems night photographs might be great. Would a Friday evening be over crowded?

We're intentionally leaving thing flexible with Saturday totally open. Any suggestions appreciated.

Between Borghesi and the Colesem we think the Roma Pass is - at least - break-even.
Does anyone know how to make the Borghesi reservations if you have the Roma Pass (The only site I've been to seems aimed at selling Tix with time slots)?

      Rome Bus system

      Rome Apr 13, 2015 at 1:59 AM

Hi. Will be in Rome in September and am trying to determine how to use the bus system while moving around rome. The ATAC website will not help as I will not have internet access. Basically I want something that can assist me in determining what bus I need to look for when standing at a bus stop. From what I have read till now, you can see the destination of the bus (the stopping point) but not the various stops it may make (depending on whether people want to climb on or climb off at that stop) I have had a look at the Bus map at but it does not really give me any more information and I do not want to spend unnecessary time trying to figure out which bus I need to catch to move from point A to point B Thanks

    • Where to find a guide for Monte Cassino

by SueHansen Online Now Mar 8, 2015 at 9:49 PM

We are a family of 8 (aged 20 - 84 yrs) travelling to Rome in June this year. We plan to hire a minivan and driver to take us to Piana delle Orme Historical Museum near the town of Latina and then on to Monte Cassino. Are their guided tours at the Abbey? Or are there local guides available for a couple of hours? I did email one lady guide who quoted us 300 Euro for a couple of hours!! I'm sure that we can do better than that.
      Your help would be appreciated.

by tonylincoln Online Now Jan 3, 2013 at 2:45 AM

I am interested in the Battles of Cassino and my wife is a painter in watercolours and acrylics.
I wondered if we could find the perfect holiday in the Cassino area where my wife could pursue her painting, ideally with tuition; and I could explore the area from the military perspective whilst she was painting.
      Any advice please?

    • accomodation in cassino in september 2010

by bettysayshello Online Now Mar 25, 2010 at 5:29 PM

My father in law is originally from Casino and we are hoping to travel as
a family of at least 5 or 6 back to his place of birth in September, we will
be hiring a car in rome and driving to Cassino but would love to either rent
a house or self catering accomodation on a ground floor level hopefully as
papa is now 91 years old and not 2 keen on stairs. Any tips on rental properties rather than hotels the more central in Casino the better.
look forward to hearing any replies
