Have to agree as well, Casablanca is not a great city to see but with an afternoon I would proberly just have a wonder around the medina and some window shopping in city. Other than that Casablanca does not have much to offer.

Agreed - the Hassan II mosque is a must; but otherwise wander through the medina or through the streets and try the local cuisine.

Casa has quite a number of art deco buildings that are worth looking for if you like architecture, also the Habous quartier for its souk and shopping. Theres a recommmended pattiserie there for pretty Casa's best patiserie. A coffee at a beachside cafe is quite nice - but the ultimate is the mosque and allowing enough time - there are tours and I think they are enforced so are you allowing enough time in the morning before you leave for Rabat to do an interior tour? otherwise you might need to do that in the afternoon that you arrive. The Lonely Planet guidebook is pretty good on things to see in places such as Casa, also the DK eyewitness guide book and the Footprints guidebook. Have an excellent holiday in Morocco!

Yes, forgot to mention that to see the interior of the mosque (a must) you need to join a tour. They are 9, 10, 11am & 2pm Sat - Thurs. (lonely planet 9th edition 2009) and all visitors must be respecfully attired.

I liked the colonial-style square Muhammad V with a number of administrative buildings and the crumbling French cathedral on the side. You can climb the cathedral towers for a view of the city and the ocean; it's actually one of the few places in the large Moroccan cities where one can enjoy a view from above. It's actually quite a scary place up there because there are no railings and one can imagine falling down by tipping over the 60-70cm high stone walls of the passageway around the two towers. Apart from that Casablanca offers few great sights in the city. The medina is nice, but nothing compared to the historical ones you'll probably see in the other cities. And if you could try to squeeze the visit to the mosque in the early afternoon, you can leave for Rabat already in the early morning and enjoy the beautiful capital city and Sale across the river. That said, if this is your first time in Morocco, you might find Casablanca much more interesting that we try to present it to you. Enjoy your trip Venelin
