    • By bus to San Carlos from Managua

San Carlos Nov 23, 2014 at 9:37 PM

Despite the traveler's account above of the trip from San CArlos to Managua by bus, does anyone have more info in the opposite direction? I need to travel to San Carlos on Saturday, January 17, stay overnight in San Carlos and catch a boat across the border the next day - at 10.30am, I believe.

Does anyone have a schedule for the bus trip and the border crossing?

      Would so much appreciate it!
      Many thanks!

    • Is cliff jumping at the Nauyaca Waterfalls possible in January?

Costa Rica Dec 14, 2014 at 4:18 PM

Traveling to Costa Rica at the end of January. My itenarary includes a trip to the Nauyaca Waterfalls. There is a place there to make a 75ft jump into the water at the base of the falls. During the time of the year when I will be there (dry season?) will there be enough water to do the jumps at the falls?
      Thanks, Brian

Would there be many events to attend on the night also can anyone recommend a good restaurant for dinner? Is it best to perhaps book as I imagine it can be quite busy...

Which places do you recommend? My guide book mentions Ciénaga de Zapata and Refugio de Fauna Silvestre Río Máximo, but are there others?

We plan to go from Santiago de Cuba wetsward until we reach Havana, so all places between these cities could be visited, so I'd appreciate any advise or hints.

Unfortunately we do not have plenty of time, so I'd be especially curious wether there are some spots, which would not make it necessary to sacrifie a whole day (as for Ciénaga de Zapata) and which are geographically near the main tourist sights.

Arriving at SJU and staying at Coral by the Sea hotel...is there a bus that runs directly to this hotel rather than loading and unloading and paying $1.00 per bag...there are 6 of us plus a child so either has to be a HUGE van with bags or likely easier on bus. Do buses allow luggage?
Can we take bus from hotel to the cruise port or does it require taking more than 1 bus and going for an hour adventure tour?
Buses are 75cents or something...no baggage fee. Just seems such a waste when hotel is not even 5 minutes from airport.

Gran Parque National Sierra Maestra and Commandancia general de la Plata

We'll rent a car and our planned trip will go from Santiago de Cuba via Bayamo to Las Tunas. We'd curious to visit the landscape of Sierra Maestre. Do we get impressions by simply drive through? Or is it necessary to take a tour from Villa Islazul de Santo Domingo for instance to Commandancia General de la Plata? What a about a lmirador to spot Pico Turquino?

If simply driving through is not possible or not satisfactory enough, we deliberate to make a day tour to Gran Parque National Sierra Maestra. To climb up Pico Turquino is certainly too exhausting for us but a tour to Commandancia general de la Plata could be doable. How long does it take? Where and at which time we'd have to start? Or are there any other recommendable day tours?

      Driving in Costa Rica

Costa Rica Nov 28, 2014 at 10:15 PM

      Hola!
Ok, we are about to leave for San Jose, then Quepos, with a couple day stop in Cartago for work first. I am braving it by renting a car out of the airport. Two questions please:
      1. For some reason I am kinda nervous about driving in and around San Jose. I speak a bit of Spanish and normally I am an excellent driver (live in LA and have driven in many places). Are there any different rules or customs that will get me in trouble? Should I take this more seriously than just going for it?

      2. My first leg will be driving from the main airport and then down towards Cartago. I see what looks easy in taking Highway 1 to Highway 39 to Highway 2. But I am looking at Google earth and see they have many alternate names. My question is if they post the highway names very well, or should I write down and look for every one of these Calles y Avenidas?

Should I just take a taxi! Or should I just not worry, It mostly makes sense????

      Thanks ahead for any advise.
      Rich.
